Sr. Mechanical Engineer
A well-established company specializing in factory automation is looking for a Sr. Mechanical Engineer with at least 8 years of experience in mechanical design for industrial robot systems. The company provides turnkey automation solutions to manufacturing industries across the U.S. Their core expertise includes robotic systems, motion control, programmable controllers, and information systems. The company’s clientele spans various sectors, including automotive, metals, food processing, and chemicals.
The ideal candidate will have experience in robot cell design, including reach studies, layouts, tooling and fixture design, and safety systems. This position will involve working within a project team responsible for designing, staging, programming, and commissioning turnkey robotic cells and safety systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Understand and implement technical requirements and scope of work for each project.
- Work effectively with project managers, engineers, the fabrication shop, and customers.
- Adhere to project schedules and budgets while managing multiple projects.
- Generate detailed assembly drawings and equipment design specifications.
- Review drawings for approval to manufacture.
- Visit customer facilities to assess scope, check assumptions, and resolve issues.
- Design robot cells, tooling, and custom equipment.
- Design mechanisms involving pneumatic systems, electric motors, servos, sensors, and materials.
- Specify robots and other cell equipment.
- Select and specify safety system components.
- Complete reach and cycle time analyses for robotic systems.
- Test, troubleshoot, and support fabrication and installation teams.
Required Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- At least 8 years of experience in mechanical industrial design or industrial robot systems.
Skills & Knowledge:
- Proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
- Knowledge of ANSI/ASME drafting standards.
- Understanding of fabrication and machining processes for custom components.
- Familiarity with automated industrial processes.
- Ability to learn quickly and stay current in a rapidly evolving field.
Additional Information:
- Travel for this role is estimated at 5% to 15%.
