Job Description

The Project Superintendent works as part of Collage's Operations Team, providing direct supervision at project sites. This position serves an essential role on our projects, is the on-site representative of the Company and is an integral part of the company's overall success.


The Project Superintendent directs all field operations at a specific project site. It is his or her duty to assure the manpower and material requirements of the project are satisfied, to properly schedule the work activities, to ensure a safe working environment and to be the gatekeeper of quality. Some specific duties of the Project Superintendent are stated below.


  • Possess thorough knowledge of the project plans, specifications and contract requirements.
  • Plan and schedule the work in advance and regularly review the plan with the Project Manager. Advise the PM when there are anticipated delays. Monitor the progress of submittals and advise PM of need dates for critical materials.
  • Ensure compliance with the Collage and OSHA Safety Policies and Procedures.
  • Coordinate with the PM and Requests for Information that need to be sent to the architect or owner.
  • Supervise and instruct any field staff.
  • Fully understand the intent and content of all subcontracts and purchase orders and ensure that the work is being performed in an acceptable manner. Identify potential scope gaps between subcontracts and advise PM of any items not bought out.
  • Ensure that the subcontractors are maintaining adequate manpower, equipment and materials to execute the work in accordance with the schedule requirements.
  • Assist the PM in providing adequate notice to any subcontractor prior to any backcharges or termination notices being issued.
  • Conduct weekly job progress meetings and safety meetings.
  • Prepare Daily Construction Reports.
  • Maintain a job diary noting all pertinent information relating to the project.
  • Maintain an inspection log for the inspection authority responsible for code compliance. Ensure permit cards are signed off by inspectors.
  • Maintain an “as-built” set of project documents to be duplicated at the completion of the project.
  • Ensure that all material tests are being performed and maintain a log of same.
  • Direct the work to eliminate Punch List items from the beginning of the project. Develop strategies with the PM to identify and complete any items not eliminated.
