Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Coding Manager to lead and oversee all aspects of medical coding operations. This role is pivotal in ensuring accurate and timely submission of diagnosis and procedure codes while driving compliance and efficiency in coding processes. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in medical coding, a passion for accuracy, and leadership experience in an acute care setting.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee the end-to-end coding process for inpatient and outpatient services.
  • Supervise E/M level code assignments for Emergency Department cases.
  • Conduct random audits to validate accurate MS-DRG, APG, and diagnosis/procedure code assignments.
  • Monitor and optimize coding workflows to ensure timely processing and compliance.
  • Demonstrate expertise in DRG payor issues, documentation improvement, and coding requirements.
  • Perform audits to assess documentation accuracy, coding assignments, and physician query processes.
  • Analyze statistical and narrative reports to improve coding outcomes and operational efficiency.
  • Lead and manage a team of Health Information Management (HIM) coding professionals.
  • Develop and deliver targeted education programs to enhance physician and staff understanding of coding processes.
  • Collaborate with IT teams to evaluate, test, and implement updates to coding software.
  • Foster a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement within the coding team.


Requirements

Education :

  • Associate Degree in a related field, or 2 years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.

Certifications :

  • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or equivalent.

Experience :

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in medical coding within an acute care hospital setting.
  • Strong understanding of coding compliance, DRG assignments, and documentation improvement.


Preferred Qualifications

Education :

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Health Care, Health Information Technology, or a related field.

Experience :

  • 5+ years of leadership or supervisory experience in medical coding.
  • 10+ years of coding expertise in a hospital or healthcare setting.
