GIS Analyst

As a contract employee, the incumbent will perform a critical technical role in the creation and support of essential feature data required by business partners, corporate initiatives, and engineering needs.

The incumbent will utilize engineering GIS data to address ongoing questions, generate new geospatial data, and provide flexible GIS services across the organization. Regular inventory analysis, including counts, mileage, and measurements of the system, will be a key responsibility.

The incumbent will also perform geospatial data preparation and assembly tasks to support the deployment of geospatial data for enterprise GIS initiatives.

This technical role requires a broad geographic understanding of the rail network, the ability to interpret track geometrics and feature placement data from the field, and a general understanding of installation and maintenance activities undertaken by various engineering sub-groups.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Create, modify, and ensure the quality control of essential geospatial infrastructure data for company-wide use in critical applications.
• Utilize practical railroad knowledge to convert spatial data from various sources into a functional digital network compliant with established database and data model standards.
• Perform quality control checks, approve, and promote geospatial data change sets produced by the CADD technicians.
• Use various GIS software tools to perform topology corrections and geometric modifications as part of the data quality review process.
• Collaborate with other groups and departments to leverage the technical skill sets of the Geospatial Data Group in support of enterprise GIS goals.
• Assist the Sr. Geospatial Data Analyst with GIS responsibilities as required to meet business needs.
• Maximize the value of geospatial technology investments by identifying opportunities for cost savings and operational improvements.
