Job Title: Schematic Cartographer

Job Summary:
The Schematic Cartographer is responsible for creating detailed schematic rail yard drawings utilized by various departments for information dissemination and training purposes. This position requires leveraging data obtained from surveys, satellite imagery, GIS data, and other geospatial sources to develop precise and informative rail yard schematics. Additionally, the role involves collaborating with subject matter experts to ensure accuracy and inclusion of essential attribute details in the drawings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Data Collection and Analysis:
- Gather and analyze data from surveys, satellite images, aerial photographs, GIS databases, and other geospatial sources.
- Ensure the integrity and applicability of data for creating detailed schematic yard drawings.
- Schematic Drawing Creation:
- Develop detailed schematic rail yard drawings, incorporating tracks, buildings, towers, roads, and other critical structures.
- Export schematic drawings to PDF format for distribution and usage.
- Drawing Revisions and Updates:
- Update and revise existing schematic drawings as necessary.
- Address corrections and adjustments to maintain accuracy and relevance.
- GIS Integration:
- Incorporate Geographic Information System (GIS) data into schematic drawings for enhanced detail and spatial context.
- Collaboration:
- Partner with rail yard operations subject matter experts to acquire detailed and accurate attribute information.
- Facilitate communication with various departments to ensure schematic drawings meet organizational requirements.
- Quality Assurance:
- Verify the accuracy, completeness, and consistency of schematic drawings.
- Ensure compliance with organizational standards and requirements.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Proficiency in GIS software (ESRI ArcGIS Pro preferred).
- Experience with MicroStation or similar design software.
- Strong time management and organizational skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and spatial awareness.
- Effective problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new tools and technologies.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Teams, Word).
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Geospatial Science, Cartography, or a related field preferred.
- Proven experience in creating schematic or technical drawings, particularly within the transportation or logistics industry, is a plus.
