Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: Onsite in Davis, California
Position Overview:
My client is seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Design Engineer to join their dynamic team in Davis, California. The ideal candidate will contribute to the research, design, development, and testing of innovative solutions for additive manufacturing (AM) systems. This role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technology, develop novel solutions, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality designs that meet industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform engineering tasks under direct supervision to support product development.
- Research, design, develop, and test equipment and processes for additive manufacturing (AM).
- Design innovative solutions for powder conveyance, optical calibration, laser control, and gas flow systems.
- Conduct time estimates for component production to assess the impact of new product innovations.
- Calculate optimal machine parameters to improve part processing and production efficiency.
- Apply statistical process control (SPC) and perform machine reliability analysis.
- Inspect finished parts to ensure quality, accuracy, and compliance with design specifications.
- Generate detailed engineering reports and technical documentation.
- Collaborate with internal technical staff, customers, and suppliers to address project requirements.
- Integrate Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles into product development.
- Create and manage CAD models, drawing files, and associated test plans.
- Develop and implement test benches to validate mechanical designs.
- Partner with manufacturing teams to ensure designs are manufacturable, cost-effective, and align with production goals.
Minimum Qualifications:
- U.S. Citizenship (required).
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.
- 1-5 years of hands-on experience in mechanical design with a focus on mechanism design.
- Proficiency in parametric CAD tools and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.
- Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), and other simulation tools.
- Hands-on experience with part processing, metal cutting, CNC programming, and machine setup.
- Basic understanding of metallurgy.
- Familiarity with additive manufacturing (AM) processes is a plus.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to interact with internal and external stakeholders professionally.
- Flexibility in handling shifting priorities and an ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
