Our client is a leading provider of HVAC, plumbing, and industrial cooling solutions, committed to delivering exceptional quality and innovative designs. We are seeking a skilled and dynamic Engineering Manager/Team Lead to join their team in San Jose, CA. This role involves overseeing and contributing to the design, planning, and execution of cutting-edge engineering projects while leading and mentoring a talented team of engineers and designers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with clients and general contractors to define and refine project scopes involving HVAC, plumbing, controls, and industrial cooling systems.
- Represent our client during project design meetings, presenting proposals, findings, and recommendations to clients and stakeholders.
- Perform site visits to evaluate existing mechanical systems and recommend performance or energy-efficiency solutions.
- Conduct and review engineering calculations, including load calculations, equipment selection, energy analysis, acoustics, psychrometric evaluations, and pressure loss analysis.
- Supervise and mentor a team of engineers and designers, providing guidance and technical expertise to ensure project deliverables are met on time and within scope.
- Evaluate the feasibility of new equipment or system modifications considering costs, space, energy goals, and project timelines.
- Conduct quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) reviews at project milestones and prior to construction.
- Develop and implement training plans for team members to enhance their technical skills and productivity.
- Assist with resource forecasting and allocation for ongoing and future projects, ensuring the department is equipped to meet project demands.
- Lead initiatives to refine engineering standards, tools, and processes to improve team efficiency and project outcomes.
- Provide technical guidance and interpretations of codes, regulations, and specifications throughout all project phases.
- Identify value engineering and constructability opportunities to optimize designs.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field, or an equivalent combination of technical training and experience.
- HVAC and/or plumbing experience for commercial and/or industrial projects.
- Experience leading teams in an engineering environment.
- Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate; California Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus.
- Proficiency in engineering software, including Trace 700, AutoCAD (2016 or later), and familiarity with Revit or BIM systems.
- Comprehensive knowledge of system types, equipment, installation standards, and procedures.
- In-depth understanding of local, state, and California building codes.
- Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills with the ability to interface with clients, architects, and other trades effectively.
- Experience with QA/QC reviews and conceptual design processes.
- Ability to act as a lead engineer on projects with minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications:
- LEED accreditation or experience with green building initiatives.
- Experience working with competitors such as ACCO Engineered Systems, Critchfield Mechanical, Southland Industries, or similar firms.
- Familiarity with project management tools and practices.
