Position Summary:

The Product Certification Engineer serves as the subject matter expert for product EMC, safety, and environmental certifications. This role ensures products meet or exceed applicable EMC, safety, and environmental standards, coordinating electrical and mechanical system certifications with Nationally Recognized Test Labs. Both domestic and international certifications fall within the scope of responsibility. The Certification Engineer supports the design and development of electrical and mechanical components to ensure compliance with applicable standards and collaborates with customers, management, engineering, legal, and other business partners on matters related to product certification. This role also hosts on-site and virtual audits as needed to support these areas.


Position Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with Nationally Recognized Test Labs to obtain product safety and environmental certifications throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Stay updated on all EMC, safety, and environmental standards applicable to the product portfolio.
  • Assist in developing company policies and procedures related to product safety and environmental standards.
  • Participate in industry standards committees involved in the development of policies and standards.
  • Direct and coordinate manufacturing, construction, installation, maintenance, support, documentation, and testing activities to ensure compliance with specifications, safety codes, and customer requirements.
  • Support factory surveillance audits for certified products.
  • Inspect completed installations and observe operations to ensure conformance with design specifications, equipment requirements, and operational and safety standards.
  • Contribute to continuous process improvement and waste elimination initiatives aligned with "Lean Business Enterprise" principles.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.


Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering with 5+ years of demonstrated product certification and project management experience.
  • Experience with Nationally Recognized Test Labs (UL, Intertek, TUV, SGS); both domestic and international.
  • Experience with EMC testing of electrical products including power systems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external resources.
  • Well-developed written/verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal relations and team skills.


Preferred:

  • Familiarity with product EMC, safety and environmental standards including:
  • UL/IEC 60601-1, 60601-1-2 Medical Electrical Equipment standard
  • UL/IEC 62368-1 A/V, Information and Communication Technology Equipment standard
  • UL 1678 Carts and Stands
  • UL 2442 Wall Mounts
  • UL 962 Household and Commercial Furnishings
  • BIFMA Level Certification


Overview :

Role Focus : Regulatory certification, compliance, and risk assessments.

Experience Required : 5-7 years guiding projects through regulatory processes, with knowledge of IEC standards .

Educational Background : Candidates with an electrical engineering background are preferred but not required.

Workload : Supporting increased certification demands due to new product development .

Reporting Structure : Reports to the engineering department , not the test/quality group.

Location : Based in Eagan, Minnesota , with potential for 1 day per week remote work .

Relocation : Open to candidates willing to relocate at their own expense .

Potential for Permanency : Strong opportunity for conversion to a permanent role.
