Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Electrical Design Engineer to lead the design, optimization, and implementation of electrical systems for both existing products and new projects. While the focus is primarily electrical engineering, the role will also require knowledge across several engineering disciplines, such as mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and industrial machine control. You will apply your expertise in control systems, including PID control for servo systems (hydraulic, electro-mechanical, pneumatic), to support the development and delivery of control and data acquisition systems. The role requires someone who thrives in a multi-tasking environment and enjoys contributing to a small team. There is potential for this position to evolve into software design and application engineering support.
Responsibilities:
Develop electrical system designs and create detailed electrical schematics and bills of materials (BOM).
Design wiring diagrams and assembly layouts for control system hardware.
Specify and design power distribution and circuit protection for electrical panels.
Select and specify components based on project requirements, including safety, limits, response, and control tolerances.
Program controllers as required, including using PLC ladder logic, LabVIEW, and Delta Motion RMCTools.
Ensure compliance with project specifications, codes, and customer requirements through coordination of installation, manufacturing, testing, and maintenance activities.
Collaborate with customers, engineers, and other stakeholders to discuss project requirements and engineering solutions.
Work with the LabVIEW software development team; contribute to software design when qualified.
Participate in regular team meetings to track project progress and collaborate on design challenges.
Support proposal development and assist with marketing efforts when needed.
Develop printed circuit board designs (e.g., Gerber files) when required.
Assist with in-house startup and commissioning of test systems.
Provide on-site support for startup, checkout, and verification of test systems at customer locations.
Mentor and train project team members, vendors, and customers as necessary.
Complete other tasks as assigned by your supervisor.
This position is based at our Canton, MI office and is not eligible for remote work.
Desired Skills and Experience
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Controls, Mechatronics, or a related field.
Experience: A minimum of 4 years of practical experience in control system design, preferably in a testing environment. New graduates are not likely to be considered for this position.
Skills:
Proficient in creating electrical designs and associated BOMs.
Familiarity with PID controllers and their application in control systems.
