Job Description:
Materials Manager is responsible for overseeing the entire flow of materials within the Company, including planning, scheduling, procurement, storage, control, and distribution of raw materials and supplies, ensuring the right amount of inventory is available to meet production needs while optimizing costs and maintaining quality standards; this role involves managing purchasing teams, vendor relationships, product costing and inventory control systems to guarantee timely delivery and efficient operations.
Key responsibilities of the Materials Manager:
Monitor and manage inventory levels to prevent stockouts and minimize excess inventory, utilizing BOMs & forecasting tools to anticipate demand fluctuations and to establish & monitor min/max levels. This includes taking a monthly physical inventory, overseeing weekly cycle counts and ensuring an accurate & timely year end physical inventory is taken.
Ensure the correct raw materials are pulled and staged prior to entering the Production Area, manage weekly cycle counts to ensure the correct raw materials are returned to stock and oversee warehouse organization to ensure materials are stored in their proper locations. “A place for everything & everything in its place”.
Review & analyze sales history, purchase history and current customer demand to determine the materials and quantities needed to fulfill our production and shipping schedules. A key part of Material Planning is overseeing supply chain to ensure forecasts are provided to our vendors, required raw materials are accounted for and available, with an emphasis on reducing cost and improving efficiency.
On a weekly basis, update Shipping Schedules, Production Schedules and Purchasing Schedules. Ensure the Procurement manager is updating the Purchasing Schedule as materials are received and new vendor PO’s are placed. Ensure that Batch Tickets are requested timely and proper raw materials are pulled & staged prior to entering the Production Area.
Oversee Procurement Manager to ensure: 1) the Company is sourcing and negotiating with vendors to secure the best pricing and quality for materials 2) to ensure the Company is managing purchase orders and delivery schedules properly.
Analyze material costs and identify opportunities to reduce expenses through vendor negotiations, optimizing inventory levels, and minimizing waste. Maintain & update product costing as price changes are received from vendors.
Ensure incoming materials meet quality standards by implementing inspection procedures and managing non-conforming goods.
- Oversee Logistics & Warehousing:
Ensure the Procurement Manager is effectively managing logistics with an emphasis on timely delivery while striving for cost reductions. Ensure the warehouse employees are accurately receiving, storing, and distributing materials within the warehouse, optimizing warehouse space and material handling processes and following proper safety protocol.
Lead and develop a team of purchasing agents, inventory specialists, and warehouse personnel.
Generate reports on inventory levels, purchasing performance, and cost analysis to identify areas for improvement, including Yield Reports
Must be certified to ship and handle hazardous/flammable material for Ocean, Air and DOT - training to be provided to candidates as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred in business, finance, logistics, systems engineering, supply chain management or similar
- Minimum three (3) years of Materials Manager or similar experience.
- Great organizational skills
- Problem-solving, multitasking, and planning skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Microsoft Excel experience.
- Strong oral, written, and follow up communications skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with DOT, IATA and IMDG requirements.
-Base wage from $80,000 to $120,000 per year commensurate with experience.
