This position plans and coordinates the production of the college publications; and assists staff with publication projects.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Marketing & Communication
  • Create marketing/communications plans and implement strategies across multiple platforms.
  • Photograph and video record College activities for marketing and advertising.
  • Serve as lead designer of graphics to leverage across platforms.
  • Write, edit, and coordinate publication of internal communications.
  • Write and proofread press releases before dissemination; ensure content is correct by conferring with appropriate College personnel.
  • Advise College on marketing and communication strategies.
  • Maintain mailing lists and databases for press contacts and government agencies.
  • Participate in Public Relations Events and Activities.
  • Coordinate production of marketing communication materials:
    • Initiate projects with customers.
    • Write copy and revise as appropriate.
    • Coordinate communication and scheduling through project completion.
  • Coordinate and plan College events.
  • Represent marketing's recommendations and respond to customer feedback appropriately.
  • Place advertising across various mediums (internet, TV, print, and radio).
  • Coordinate the work of Design Op students.
Design, Photography, Videography, and Professional Writing
  • Use a computer, graphic and web software (including but not limited to Adobe applications), scanner, digital still and video cameras, printers, and other specialized equipment to execute complex layouts and video production/editing for a variety of publications and media outlets, including newsletters, magazine ads, brochures, pamphlets, flyers, reports, forms, information packets, booklets, manuals, presentation folders, posters, logos, displays, charts, graphics, photography, video, and HTML and PDF files.
  • Prepare or edit College publications such as employee newsletters, stakeholder reports, data reports, flow charts, and annual reports for internal and external audiences. Create files that are print-ready per specifications provided by the customer or publication.
  • Serve as the primary photographer and assistant videographer for the College, coordinating photo/video shoots with programs and departments.
  • Create multi-color illustrations and technical graphics using various media for various uses in electronic layout and web publishing programs, displays, presentations, and multi-media programs. Proofread materials for clarity, format, and College brand standards.
  • Consult with advertising agencies or staff to arrange promotional campaigns in all types of media for products, organizations, or individuals.
  • Assist in the management and editing of website content.
  • Write copy for advertising, websites, College messaging, social media, and marketing projects.
Maintenance
  • Maintain desktop publishing equipment by keeping the system clean and free of unnecessary software or files that are not applicable to the job.
  • Manage the College's substantial photo library. Digitally manipulate photos for use in College projects.
  • Research and recommend new software or hardware. Organize and back up files regularly. May troubleshoot computer problems.
Content Composition & Proofing
  • Write or proofread marketing copy for print materials prior to publication.
  • Proofread press releases before dissemination.
  • Serve on committees, coordinate with staff and committees for the College, and prepare promotional communications for special projects and events as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:
Associate degree with coursework in design, photography, journalism, public relations, marketing, video production or related field

Two years of experience in design, marketing, journalism, writing, editing, public relations, electronic publishing, or related field

High level skill in Photography, Design and use of Adobe applications, and can demonstrate professional writing capabilities

Bachelor's degree in marketing, public relations, graphic design, journalism, or related field

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
SKILLS ASSESSMENT INFORMATION
Candidates who are selected to interview for this position will be given a design exercise and writing evaluation. Please allow one hour for this.
SCHEDULE & MODALITY
Based on individual assessment, business needs, supervisory discretion and/or college directives, a percentage of the duties of this position may be performed remotely.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • This is a 100%, 12-month classified assignment of the C1 band and grade
  • Please note: The college is currently undertaking a comprehensive classification and compensation study. No employee will lose base pay because of this study, however, classification titles and pay grades may change. The successful candidate will receive notice of all changes prior to implementation which is currently projected for the Winter of 2025.
  • This position has a 6-month probationary period
  • All positions at Chemeketa are required to be available for work onsite as requested by the college.
  • Requires flexible work schedule to meet program needs, which may include evenings and/or weekends
  • This position may require the use of your personal vehicle for transportation between campus locations
  • If requested, requires the provision of official transcripts upon hire
  • Employees must maintain Oregon, Washington or Idaho residency as a condition of employment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Sedentary Work:Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary requirements are met.

PUBLIC SERVICE LOAN FORGIVENESS
Chemeketa Community College is considered a qualifying public employer for the purposes of the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. Through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program, full-time employees working at the College may qualify for forgiveness of the remaining balance on Direct Loans after 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan.
