Position Summary: The successful candidate must be an MD with a valid Virginia license and be board eligible/certified in a specific specialty. The role involves providing comprehensive medical care, performing diagnostic procedures, prescribing treatments, and improving patient health and quality of life with a high level of independence.
Responsibilities: - Examines, diagnoses, treats, counsels and prescribes medications for patients as needed.
- Provides physical examinations and other general services
- Records a summary in each patient's medical chart after each consultation.
- Makes referrals to medical or clinical specialists when necessary.
- Responsible for providing accurate prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
- Responsible for the improvement of patient health and quality of life.
- Independently resolves daily medical issues.
- Ensure guidance is received on policy or exceptional situations.
- May provide medical supervision to other clinical staff.
Qualifications: - Medical Doctor with a valid Virginia license
- Board eligible/certified in psychiatric, internal medicine, family practice, emergency medicine, or other similar medical/surgical specialty
- Graduation from an accredited medical school
- Considerable active medical treatment and management experience
- Skilled in technical and management aspects of health care quality improvement and performance management
- Experience working in a correctional medical setting preferred.
- Direct participation in quality improvement and quality assurance programming as the department head or private/group practice preferred
Necessary Attributes: - Competent in evaluation, diagnostic, and treatment planning
- Competent in staff education and supervision
- Ability to manage individual quality improvement projects and a quality improvement/quality assurance enterprise
- Ability to translate project findings into sustainable practice using conventional health system approaches such as PDSA, Six Sigma, Lean, etc.
- Knowledge of conventional individual and health system performance metrics and their application.
- Skilled in communication, health care education, and working with multi-disciplinary teams.
- Ability to work cooperatively with the nursing department and the allied health professionals with the Healthcare Administrator.
