Air Distribution Technologies, Inc is seeking a Lab Manager to plan, direct, and coordinate daily operations for our Lab Technicians. This person will work closely with Engineering, Product Management, and Sales teams in maintaining the Lab schedule in Monday.com for product development, agency testing, VA projects, and supplier qualifications. The Lab Manager will also define and develop process standards for continuous improvements while interfacing with all supporting departments/customers. They will need to promote a healthy working atmosphere, communicate effectively, provide technical guidance, use sound engineering principles, effective use of facilities, and maintain organizational standards.


What You’ll Do:

People and Process Management:

  • Hire, train, and manage the performance deliverables for Lab Technicians
  • Lead and instruct team members to execute unit setups
  • Lead weekly meetings with engineering teams, product managers, and project managers to set lab priorities
  • Prepare and present monthly high-level reports out to the business leaders
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures across all lab operations and staff
  • Estimate testing turnaround times, lab staffing requirements, and related accreditation costs to provide information for management decisions.
  • Ensuring that lab project timelines, budgets, written procedures, and reports are completed and communicated on time.

Lab Operations:

  • Review sales and design plans to understand to define project scope, lab requirements, and feasibility and specifications with predictable schedules.

  • Develop trial builds, validate quality control methods, and establish witness testing requirements
  • Prepare and install test units in the test facility to simulate field installation conditions or standard testing requirements, including duct and electrical connections.
  • Set up test facilities and connect data acquisition instruments according to general instructions and per test standard requirements.
  • Analyze test data and make modifications and adaptations to the test unit based upon analysis of the data.
  • Maintain Engineering Lab inventory of units, materials, supplies, and calibration logs
  • Collaborate with supporting departments regarding technical issues, arranging for the purchase of tooling, testing materials, and part evaluations according to specifications and quality standards.

Health, Safety, and Compliance:

  • Promote and sustain Business Accreditation requirements by working with all supporting teams
  • Lead Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) activities and reporting for ASC Lab locations.
  • Ensure that all lab activities adhere to safety protocols and accreditation standards.


What We Look For:

  • Associate’s degree with a minimum 8-10 years’ experience in an HVAC lab or testing lab environment demonstrating progressively increased responsibilities, including supervisory or management roles OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, or Aeronautical Engineering or equivalent with 5 years of experience in a development environment with progressive managerial experience.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret test data & catalog data
  • Strong working knowledge of electrical circuitry and skills in such areas as reading wiring diagrams, modifying unit wiring and controls with minimal instruction, instrumentation, electromechanical troubleshooting, and modification of prototypes
  • Able to apply fundamental engineering theories, mathematics, mechanics, and physical science concepts to the job.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, Outlook, Teams, and Monday.com

Preferred:

  • Experience with NI and LabView
  • Experience with rapid prototyping and 3D printing
  • Experience in welding (MIG, TIG, etc.)
  • Knowledge of agency standards (ASHRAE, AHRI, AMCA, UL, etc…)


Work Environment:

The Lab Manager will work in a dynamic HVAC design testing lab, combining desk-based tasks with hands-on responsibilities. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear or smell. The employee is sometimes required to climb or balance. The role requires regularly lifting and moving equipment such as fans, motors, and sheet metal parts and operating various testing tools and systems. Adherence to safety protocols, including PPE and EHS guidelines, is essential. The environment may involve exposure to loud noises, temperature variations, moving mechanical parts, and a fast-paced, collaborative atmosphere.
