Assistant Project Manager – Mechanical & HVAC
About the Role
We are seeking an Assistant Project Manager (APM) with experience in Mechanical and HVAC to support our growing team in Grand Rapids, MI. The APM will assist in planning, coordinating, and executing commercial and industrial mechanical projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in managing mechanical and HVAC projects from pre-construction through completion.
- Support project scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation.
- Coordinate with project managers, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure smooth project execution.
- Review project plans, specifications, and contracts to ensure compliance.
- Track project progress and provide regular updates to stakeholders.
- Assist in procurement of materials and equipment.
- Ensure all work meets safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
- Maintain accurate project documentation, including RFIs, change orders, and submittals.
- Collaborate with field teams to resolve project challenges efficiently.
- Conduct site visits and assist in troubleshooting technical issues.
Qualifications & Experience
- 3+ years of experience in project coordination or management in Mechanical, HVAC, or MEP construction.
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or related field preferred, but not required.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, mechanical piping, and sheet metal installations.
- Experience working on commercial, industrial, or institutional projects.
- Familiarity with construction documents, blueprints, and project management software.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) and project management tools (Procore, Bluebeam, or similar).
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with Mechanical Contractors.
- OSHA 30 Certification.
- Knowledge of BIM coordination and prefabrication processes.
- Understanding of local and state mechanical codes.
