The EM&E Design and Regulatory RF Engineer will be responsible for the design, planning, and implementation of radio frequency (RF) networks, with a focus on compliance with regulatory requirements and operational efficiency. This position will involve close collaboration with various teams including the RF design, regulatory compliance, and operations departments to ensure that all RF designs and installations meet the highest standards for performance and regulatory adherence.
Key Responsibilities:
- RF Network Design & Planning:
- Design and plan RF network architectures, including both indoor and outdoor systems, to ensure optimal coverage and capacity.
- Perform RF propagation modeling, site surveys, and frequency planning to ensure effective spectrum management.
- Develop and optimize RF designs to meet customer requirements while ensuring cost-effectiveness.
- Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure all RF network designs and deployments comply with local, state, and federal regulatory standards (e.g., FCC regulations).
- Prepare and submit necessary documentation for regulatory filings and approvals.
- Stay up-to-date on changes in regulatory requirements and advise the team on necessary adjustments to designs and procedures.
- Performance & Quality Assurance:
- Analyze network performance metrics and perform troubleshooting to resolve RF interference, signal degradation, and other performance issues.
- Conduct RF testing and optimization to meet or exceed established performance benchmarks.
- Cross-functional Collaboration:
- Work with the site acquisition, construction, and operations teams to ensure designs are correctly implemented and meet technical and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with vendors and suppliers to source equipment and materials needed for RF network deployment and upgrades.
- Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of RF designs, regulatory filings, testing, and other relevant documentation.
- Provide regular updates and reports on project status, regulatory compliance, and performance metrics to stakeholders.
- Troubleshooting & Support:
- Support the operations team in troubleshooting RF-related issues in the field and recommend improvements to optimize performance.
- Provide technical support to regulatory and compliance teams during inspections and audits.
Qualifications:
- Education : Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience :
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in RF design, network planning, or regulatory compliance within the telecommunications industry.
- Knowledge of RF propagation models, network optimization tools, and software.
- Experience with regulatory agencies and compliance processes, especially in the context of RF communications.
- Skills :
- Strong understanding of RF theory, spectrum management, and wireless technologies (e.g., LTE, 5G).
- Proficiency with RF design tools (e.g., iBwave, ATOLL, Pathloss, or similar).
- Solid understanding of FCC and other local regulatory frameworks related to RF communications.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally with internal teams and external regulatory agencies.
- Ability to troubleshoot RF-related issues and propose innovative solutions.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with 5G or next-generation wireless technology.
- Advanced certifications in RF engineering or regulatory compliance.
- Familiarity with AT&T's network architecture and operational processes.
