This position is located in the Office of Individual Licensing and Continuing Education
Job Purpose:
Under direct supervision, support licensure work related to insurance regulated by this state for adjusters, agencies, appraisers, producers, public adjusters, and surplus lines brokers.
Process electronic applications for individual licensing. Processing includes utilizing basic knowledge of state laws and regulations, requesting and analyzing legal criminal documents, and determining the eligibility of the individual applying for licensure.
Through utilization of the State Based Systems (SBS), National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR), background spreadsheet, and other mediums, review all necessary documentation and perform these activities in an acceptable and timely manner.
Process applications timely and accurately and advise applicants of needed items to process applications and maintain ongoing contact if needed.
Serve as dedicated customer service representative responsible for answering inbound calls and meeting with visitors regarding all licensing requirements, licensing statuses, and basic CE inquiries.
Explain basic insurance statutes, regulations, and rules relating to licensure through utilization of the Licensing Reference Manual.
Refer complex questions or problems to higher level staff or management as needed.
Consistently meets work schedules and fulfills job responsibilities and commitments. Meets deadlines and follows instructions with eagerness and affability.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
A high school diploma and work experience that is directly related to the area of employment. A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the required program experience. Must pass a background check and become Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) certified.
Previous experience effectively working independently as well as part of a team.
Must be able to work independently with limited supervision. Once daily duties are learned, work will be performed independently with occasional help from higher level staff or management.
Must be able to sit in front of a computer for long or extended periods of time.
Employee must have knowledge of or experience in insurance laws, regulations, policies and procedures, competent computer processing skills, and effective verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to effectively plan and organize work activities and prioritize task completion according to schedules and goals.
Ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Ability to communicate effectively in writing, on the phone, and in person.
Basic knowledge of state laws and regulations and office practices and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
Prefer those bilingual in Spanish and who have previously worked as a licensed producer or in a licensed agency.

Disaster Response:
This position is considered essential in the event of an emergency or major disaster. Incumbent is required to participate in emergency or major disaster response activities as outlined in the DOI Disaster Response Plan. During such times, the incumbent should regard himself/herself as being on 24-hour call and subject to duty when such an event occurs or is anticipated to occur.
