Job Description

Job Title: Sterile Processing Technician

Location: Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Job Type: Contract

Duration: 13 Weeks

Shift: Monday to Friday, 3:00 PM - 11:30 PM


Position Overview:

The Sterile Processing Technician will be responsible for decontaminating, processing, sterilizing, and distributing medical instruments, equipment, and supplies. The ideal candidate will ensure all equipment is sterilized in accordance with AAMI, AORN, Joint Commission, and OSHA standards. This position also requires the technician to maintain accurate records, operate sterilization equipment, and uphold aseptic techniques in a fast-paced and dynamic hospital setting.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Clean, disinfect, inspect, and assemble surgical instruments, procedural trays, and medical equipment.
  • Operate and maintain sterilization and cleaning/disinfecting equipment.
  • Monitor sterilization processes and perform biological testing to ensure equipment is sterile.
  • Follow protocols for failed biological indicators and take corrective actions as necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with sterilization protocols and maintain accurate documentation in accordance with regulatory standards.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment in the Sterile Processing Department.
  • Distribute processed supplies and equipment to hospital departments.
  • Assist in the reprocessing of endoscopic equipment (if applicable).
  • Participate in training and orientation of new staff.
  • Report faulty equipment, safety concerns, and deficiencies to leadership.


Qualifications:

  • Experience : A minimum of 3 years of experience in sterile processing, preferably in a Level 1 trauma center.
  • Education : High school diploma or equivalent is required. Completion of Central Sterile coursework is preferred.
  • Skills : Strong knowledge of sterilization techniques, equipment operation, and infection control protocols. Basic problem-solving skills and the ability to follow detailed instructions.
  • Licensure : Certification in Sterile Processing is preferred.
  • Other Requirements : Ability to maintain accurate records, good communication skills, and proficiency in using sterilization equipment.
