Position Overview
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) will oversee Deacon's daily business operations and administration. The COO will manage and optimize the company’s operational processes and capabilities, implement business strategies, and drive efficiency. This leadership role requires a strategic mindset, strong organizational skills, and deep expertise in the construction industry. The COO will work with the General Managers and other department heads to help drive company performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership:
- Partner with the CEO to develop and implement companywide strategies and initiatives.
- Evaluate company performance and look for opportunities to improve the current operational policies and procedures.
- Focus on bottom-line profits by improving operational efficiency and performance.
- Manage quality control measures to optimize company performance and client service.
- Help develop new processes and/or programs as required.
- Drive the adoption of new technology and systems to improve project management and company operations.
- Operational Leadership:
- Lead the development and execution of operational strategies, policies, and procedures.
- Develop performance goals and metrics to drive operational excellence.
- Meet with teams at all locations to understand where support is needed.
- Provide guidance in risk management and problem-solving throughout all phases of construction.
- Assist in resource management at all locations.
- Manage and oversee the people development process. This includes HR, hiring, recruiting, training and development.
- Financial Oversight:
- Work closely with the CFO to help manage company budgets, control costs, and ensure profitability of the divisions that are not performing to company standards.
- Drive cost-effective solutions while maintaining quality standards and timelines.
- Monitor operational expenditures.
- Team Leadership and Development:
- Be a resource to support local office leadership in building, mentoring, and managing a high-performing operations team that includes project managers, engineers, and construction supervisors.
- Foster a positive and collaborative culture that emphasizes continuous improvement and employee development.
- Work with all offices to provide resources for any location that needs additional support.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Business Administration, or related field.
- 10 years of leadership experience in the commercial construction industry, with at least 5 years in an executive or senior management role preferred.
- Proven track record of successfully managing large-scale construction projects from start to finish.
- Financial acumen with experience in budgeting, forecasting, and cost management.
- Excellent leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to manage cross-functional teams.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, focusing on delivering results in a high-pressure environment.
- Exceptional communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to effectively interact with clients, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.
