The Position
Working on-site at the company’s administrative building in Austin, Texas, and through the support of two direct reports, the Chief Financial Officer is the senior financial authority and a member of the executive team, this position reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer but will work very closely with the Chief Administrative Officer, the Chief Medical Officer and other talented and tenured members of the leadership team. The CFO is responsible for Finance, Accounting, Payroll, Revenue Cycle, and Purchasing. This senior leader will lead and serve as an active participant in strategic planning, finance, management of treasury, revenue cycle, payor contracting, real estate, brainstorming and problem resolution, and financial communication to the executive team and the various Boards. The Chief Financial Officer carries out all duties and responsibilities while maintaining compliance and confidentiality.
Essential functions and responsibilities include the following:
Oversight, responsibility and working collaboratively with the finance team leadership around management of treasury, including financial planning, managing financial risks, keeping track of cash flow and expenditures, handling investment and taxation issues, developing and supporting functional internal accounting and financial policies, collecting and managing financial data, reporting financial performance to the executive team and Board of Directors, and sound internal controls to ensure accurate measurement of financial results
Oversight and responsibility for managing and implementing programs to ensure operations of the organization’s revenue cycle program generates sufficient cash flow to support operational and strategic initiatives
Oversight and responsibility for strategizing and administering all payor contract negotiation, analysis, and compliance activities based on business and financial plans, including negotiation, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the payor contractual arrangements
Responsibility for stocks in all companies
Oversight and co-managing the organization’s real estate portfolio, interacting with and negotiating financing, and working with deployment partners.
Providing executive team with reviews of financial status and progress in its various programs and activities
Reporting operational results in a timely and consistent manner
Recommending major economic strategies, objectives, and policies
Responsibility for proper monitoring of charge entry, coding support, insurance claims filing and follow-up, payment and adjustment posting, collections and refunds, and seeking methods to improve processes and outcomes
Adhering to all company policies, including, but not limited to, OSHA, HIPAA, compliance, and Code of Conduct
Providing management, oversight, and support for two direct reports:
Vice President of Finance
Vice President of Revenue Cycle
Serving as an exemplary steward of the organization’s mission and philosophy
Performing other duties as assigned
The Successful Candidate
The Chief Financial Officer is an experienced professional, demonstrating the knowledge, skills, and ability to function as a key executive leader of the organization. These competencies include, but are not limited to, the following:
Ability to engage others, listen, and adapt response to meet others’ needs
Ability to work on-site at the company’s administrative building in Austin, TX
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
Master’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
CPA (Certified Public Accountant) strongly preferred
7 or more years of progressive healthcare financial leadership experience, including:
Experience in physician services
Experience within investor-owned organizations
Good knowledge and abilities in contracting, inclusive of the following:
Strong negotiation skills
High level knowledge of claims payment/processing methodologies
Strong provider relations and customer service skills
Knowledge and familiarity with local and national market trends
Strong knowledge of managed care nomenclature and various types of provider reimbursement mechanisms, including capitation
Patient registration and patient accounting processes
Knowledge of Federal and State guidelines associated with pricing of services, government and non-government carriers and follow-up methods, and payor Coordination of Benefits (COB) rules
Sound financial skills and experience in financial reporting, forecasting, modeling and analysis, cash flow management, GAAP, internal controls, and auditing procedures
Ability to utilize excellent analytical skills, critical thinking, and creativity while collaborating with leaders to shape objectives
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to interact professionally with all levels of the organization and with external vendors and patients
Proven track record of excellence in leading others, building cohesive and effective teams
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities
Strong knowledge of Microsoft programs and other business financial and accounting systems
Ability to align own actions with those of other team members committed to common goals
Experience with consolidations, eliminations, and intercompany accounting, partnership accounting, and real estate accounting in a healthcare environment preferred
Ability to understand opposing points of view on highly complex issues and negotiate and integrate different viewpoints
Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and competing demands
Ability to make decisions which have significant impact on the organization’s credibility, operations, and services
Ability to rapidly establish credibility and maintain good working relationships with executives, physicians, employees, vendors, and customers
