Job Description

A small boutique estate planning and elder law firm located in Arlington, Virginia, is seeking a bright, self-starting, presentable, friendly person with a positive attitude and a "can do" frame of mind as an estate planning and elder law legal assistant/paralegal. We require a responsible, conscientious, and organized individual comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. Candidates must possess strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a propensity for software and technology-based projects. You will have significant client contact, so professional communication skills are critical.
Candidates must have experience and comfort using Word to prepare correspondence and documents, Excel spreadsheets and the ability to navigate online filings and databases as well as other software or technology-based programs necessary in the day-to-day operations of our firm. Examples of typical job duties include supporting other paralegals, communicating with clients, maintaining attorney calendars, tracking progress of estate planning projects, preparing legal documents (wills, trusts, deeds, etc.), assisting with estate planning document executions, photocopying and mailing documents, preparing letters and invoices, entering transactions into accounting programs, assist in preparing annual accountings, visiting clients at skilled nursing facilities, assisted living facilities, group homes, and residences, obtain updates from healthcare providers regarding clients and prepare written reports.
The ideal candidate will have at least two years of college or experience working as a legal assistant or paralegal in a law firm. Having a paralegal certification is preferred though not required. A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is a plus, and a paralegal degree/certificate is preferred but not a requirement.
Compensation: $22-$29/Hour
Location: Arlington, VA
Schedule: Mon-Fri, 8:30a-5:00p (60 minute unpaid lunch)

  • Strong understanding of legal terminology and real estate verbiage.
  • Attend meetings while taking and consolidating notes.
  • Transcribe, proofread, and file legal documents prior to deadlines.
  • Manage travel logistics for one or more attorneys.
  • Manage schedules.
  • Schedule court depositions, hearings, and other meetings as determined by an attorney.
  • Keep and organize court files.
Requirements:
  • At least two years of college or experience working as a legal assistant or paralegal in a law firm
