Job Summary:
The Prep Cook will be responsible for preparing ingredients and assisting in the overall food preparation process. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, has a strong work ethic, and is passionate about delivering high-quality food in a fast-paced, fine-dining environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Wash, peel, chop, and prepare vegetables, fruits, meats, and other ingredients for daily service.
- Measure and prepare ingredients according to recipes and portion control standards.
- Assist in the preparation of sauces, stocks, and dressings as directed by Chefs.
- Ensure that all ingredients are properly stored, labeled, and organized for easy access.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the prep area, ensuring all work surfaces, tools, and equipment are sanitized.
- Follow all food safety and sanitation procedures to meet health regulations.
- Assist in cleaning and maintaining kitchen equipment, utensils, and workstations.
- Monitor inventory levels of ingredients and notify the Sous Chef or Executive Chef when supplies need replenishing.
- Support line cooks and other kitchen staff during service by providing prepped ingredients in a timely manner.
- Assist with special projects, daily specials, and seasonal menu preparation as needed.
- Ensure proper storage and rotation of food items to minimize waste.
- Take direction from the Executive Chefs to ensure quality and efficiency during kitchen operations.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Prep Cook, Kitchen Assistant, or in a similar culinary role, preferably in a fine dining or high-end restaurant.
- Strong knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
- Advanced knife skills and familiarity with kitchen equipment and tools.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and work independently.
- Passion for food and a strong desire to develop culinary skills.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for long periods and work in a hot, fast-paced environment.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to bend, stretch, and move around the kitchen with ease.
- Ability to work quickly and efficiently while maintaining a high standard of cleanliness.
