Job Description Savannah River National Laboratory is seeking a Laboratory Director's Postdoctoral Fellow (LDF) to support the missions at the lab. Qualified individuals must hold a degree in physical sciences, chemical engineering, materials science, or related areas from an accredited US institution. Strong expertise in electro catalytic materials, reaction kinetics, and computation is desirable.
The LDF position is focused on leading, advancing, developing, and applying advanced materials, manufacturing, and processes for converting carbon and nitrogen-based emissions and contaminants for environmental minimization and valorization in a research and development environment to anticipate, innovate, and deliver solutions in support of the Savannah River National Laboratory missions related to energy resilience, advanced manufacturing solution, and waste minimization.
The Fellow position is fixed term assignments within the company and benefits eligible .
Responsibilities The researcher will join a team with interdisciplinary expertise to develop advanced materials and manufacturing solutions to improve energy resilience and security and minimize waste and air emissions in support of the Department of Energy Environmental Management directives. Work scope will include the development of electrochemical systems (materials, reactions, processes, devices, and controls), materials characterization and product analysis, reaction kinetics and thermodynamics studies, and participation in reporting and peer-reviewed publications. Additional work scope may include computational simulation and modeling.
Candidate should have a Ph.D. with at least 0-5 years of experience in the areas of Chemical Engineering, Electrochemistry, or Materials Science with a motivation to work in a collaborative environment involving multiple partners spanning academia and industry.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: - Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or Material Science with a US citizenship status (with a minimum of 0~5 years of experience).
- Individuals must have completed all requirements for their PhD by the start of employment.
- Ability to obtain and maintain appropriate level government security clearance, which legally requires U.S. citizenship.
- Hold a degree from an accredited US institution.
Preferred Qualifications: - Experience in experimental electrochemistry for environmental and energy applications.
- Expertise in electrochemical measurements using electrochemical techniques and electrochemical systems including materials, reactions, processes, and devices.
- Experience in products and materials characterization using a range of techniques such as GC/MS, ICP-MS/AES, SEM, XRD, and TGA/DSC.
- Computational skills for the studies of materials, reactions, and processes are a plus.
- Strong publication record is desirable.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience working with a diverse team of researchers.
- Able to communicate effectively in a variety of platforms.
