General Description of the Position
The Department of Mass Communications, Visual and Performing Arts at Delaware State University seeks highly qualified applicants for a full-time, position as a Mass Communication's Lecturer to begin in January of 2025. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to instruct public relations and journalism courses. Lecturers must grade tests and papers, advise students on class and career topics, and prepare lessons. Lecturers should be knowledgeable in delivering instruction in person as well as navigating distance educational environments such as Blackboard.

Essential Functions & Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

The following are the functions essential to performing this job:
  1. The successful candidate for this position will be required to teach a broad range of undergraduate courses, including Foundations of Mass Communications, Public Opinion and Propaganda, Writing in the Major, Public Relations Principles and Practices. Candidate will also be responsible for advising students, working with student-run organizations, engaging in scholarship and service to the university, the community and the profession.
  2. In addition to teaching, successful candidates will be expected to develop new courses in their specialties to enhance and strengthen the current curricula; actively engage in grant seeking and in individual and/orcollaborativeresearchandpublications;andserveonDepartmentandUniversity committees. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The individual in this job must possess these skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities:
  1. Be innovative and successful in teaching public relations courses which incorporate discipline-based research, writing, digital platforms and apps, and technologies for new media channels.
  2. Have documented experience in online teaching highly preferred with learning management systems expertise(specifically blackboard),developing and teaching undergraduate courses, social media and internet production (e.g., blogging, layout and design, web writing, and development) and app integration.
Qualification Standards
  1. Education: Hold a Ph.D. or M.F.A in Communications/Media/Journalism/Animation/ Motion Design in an active program. A candidate with a master's degree in communications/media/journalism/Animation/ Motion Design who has demonstrated professional digital media experience will be considered.
  2. Successful experience: Minimum of two years of relevant teaching experience
  3. Ability to engage in scholarly activities in area of expertise.
  4. Experience using blackboard or on-line teaching technology is highly desirable.
  5. Proficient in diverse Social Media platforms.
