Position Summary: The CDL Driver position is an entry-level step to a rewarding career in the construction and maintenance of our nation’s Power Grid. This position works at various location and may also require to travel to another state depending on customer demands.nnJob Duties:nnAs a Truck Driver, you will support your team by:nnSecuring the safety of yourself and othersnnAssisting fellow line-workers in meeting project objectivesnnReadily joining storm restoration efforts in times of neednnOperating vehicles and equipment in a professional mannernnContinuing training to improve technical and leadership skillsnnCompetencies:nnTeam-OrientednnSelf-MotivatednnCustomer Service FocusednnEthical and HonestnnDutifully follows established Safety Rules and Company PolicynnPhysical Aspects:nnThe physical demands described here are typical of those that must be met by a team-member to successfully perform the essential functions of their job in powerline construction.nnWhile performing the duties of this job, team-members are regularly required to talk or hear. The team-member is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, and feel; and reach with hands and arms.nnThe team-member is frequently required to perform rigorous physical labor; sit; climb different types of structures (wood, steel, etc.); or balance; and stoop, kneel crouch or crawl. Team-members frequently lift or move up to or in-excess of 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.nnWork Environment:nnWhile performing the duties of this job, team-members may frequently be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. Team-members are occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. Powerline construction work is performed outside and is subject to diverse weather conditions.nnGeneral Expectations:nnPossess a Commercial Driver’s License – Class A Preferred.nnAble to read/write and communicate effectively.nnAble to travel long distances on short notice, when required.nnAble to work for extended periods in various locations, when required.nnAble to lift in-excess of 50 lbs.nnWilling to work over-time when requested.nnWilling to work outside of the normal work schedule including weekends, holidays, and overtime as required for the position.nnFunctions to be Expected in Overhead Powerline Construction:nnWorks safely while performing new construction, maintenance, or repair work of energized and de-energized overhead worknnProperly inspects rubber goods and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)nnUnderstands when to wear personal protective equipmentnnStrings overhead wirennFrequently works with energized high voltage systems requiring skill and care to protect the lives of themselves and othersnnMaintains company vehicles, equipment and tools in good working ordernnAble to perform rigorous physical labornnUnderstands proper use of company radionnUnderstand the proper use and maintenance of hand toolsnnCapable of receiving and following directionsnnPossess a basic knowledge of materials used in line worknnAble to identify primary and secondary voltage on a circuitnnMust be familiar with induced voltagennCapable of assisting with the installation and hook up of a single-phase transformernnCapable of performing basic bucket rescue/escapennUnderstands the basic concepts of equipment set up and groundingnnCapable of working at heights and/or confined spacesnnUnderstands minimum approach distancennUnderstands excavation and shoring requirementsnnCapable of checking voltage on transformersnnCapable of installing and removing a servicennMust be able to climb different types of structures (wood, steel, etc.) and possess the necessary tools to do sonnUnderstands how and when to use Kellum gripsnnAble to identify different types of materials used in line worknnMust be able to work outside, frequently in inclement weathernnDoes all other related work as required to complete the jobnnEqual Opportunity Employer - Minorities/Females/Veterans/DisablednnVA Approved Apprenticeship Program – GI Bill Benefits Available to Eligible VeteransnnBurford's is a Non-union CompanynnNOTE: This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive.
