Biomaterials Scientist
Nexture Bio is seeking a skilled and motivated Biomaterials Scientist with expertise in 3D tissue engineering to help drive the development of advanced biomaterials to enable the field of cell-cultured meat. The ideal candidate will be a technical expert and have hands-on experience with the construction of 3D architecture through various methods (e.g., electrospinning equipment and/or various spraying and extruding techniques) contributing to innovative product development and process optimization. This role reports directly to the VP of Research & Development.
Nexture is an enabling technology company serving the cultivated protein sector. Initially targeting the cell-cultured meat production market, Nexture Bio produces scaffolds, microcarriers, cell-attachment factors, and other materials that can be used to produce cultivated meat beyond existing solutions.
Responsibilities include:
- Design, develop, and implement biomaterial and bioreactor products for mass production.
- Cell culture process development for the production of cell-cultivated meat.
- Operate and maintain equipment and cell culture for experimental and production activities.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including tissue engineers, product developers, and R&D staff. Occasional travel may be required.
- Document research findings, methods, and production techniques, ensuring traceability and reproducibility.
- Stay up-to-date with industry advancements and integrate new technologies into Nexture Bio’s processes.
- Advise the management team on product and patent development, and provide customer support and service.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Master’s or advanced degree in Materials Science, Nanoengineering, or a related field.
- 3+ years of relevant experience in materials engineering, ideally within nanoengineering or biomaterials.
- Proficiency with electrospinning equipment is preferred and experience with electrospraying, extrusion techniques, and other material processes including covalent conjugation and synthesis a plus.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a keen attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, innovative environment.
- Industry, GMP experience preferred.
- Familiarity with plant proteins and food science preferred.
