Talent Acquisition Specialist


Reports to: Manager, Talent & Organizational Development

Department: Human Resources


About the role

This position is responsible for talent acquisition activities including candidate generation through networking and research. The Talent Acquisition Specialist works closely with Managers and local educational institutions to define, develop, and implement recruiting strategies and to provide a qualified candidate pool that supports our requirements.

Your day-to-day:

  • Develop candidate interest for available positions
  • Process candidates from resume review, test administration, interviewing and on-boarding
  • Screen, interview and short list both internal and external candidates
  • Interview with HR Business Partners and Hiring Managers, coordinating hiring decisions processes
  • Develop & maintain “trusted advisor” relationships with Hiring Managers and HR Business Partners
  • Identify and administer any government recruitment subsidies or other incentives
  • Screen trade candidates based on familiarity with certification requirements.
  • Use networking opportunities such as local community groups or professional associations to identify referrals for qualified candidates
  • Perform queries and searches in Applicant Tracking databases for qualified candidates
  • Search the internet using search engines, user groups or Blogs and other creative techniques to find qualified candidates
  • Identify user groups and professional associations which could lead to qualified candidates
  • Perform other administrative tasks as needed, including HRIS transactions, background checks, scheduling of Medical Assessments as well as other related HR support
  • Keep Applicant Tracking System (ATS) always updated
  • Professionally represent Talent & OD Centre of Expertise to internal and external stakeholders
  • Perform other miscellaneous duties as required by management


What you bring to the table

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources/business or a related field
  • At least 2+ years’ experience in functional recruitment best practices
  • At least 2+ years’ knowledge in computers, including in-depth internet knowledge and working proficiency in Word, Excel, Power Point, Internet, and database applications
  • At least 2+ years direct sourcing experience
  • At least 3+ years’ experience working in an ATS (Applicant Tracking System) or integrated HRIS system. Workday experience preferred.
  • At least 3+ years’ experience sourcing through various channels including social media
  • Position will be supporting both Hamilton Works and Lake Erie Works requiring regular travel as needed to perform onsite duties at both locations


Job Skills and Knowledge:

  • Strong knowledge of talent acquisition / HR best practices, employment eligibility legislation.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
