Compensation: $38 - $55 per hour, depending on qualifications
Overview/Summary:
We are seeking a Mechanical Designer to work on-site at a chemical manufacturing site in Newark, NJ. This facility is involved in the development and manufacturing of various scents and flavors used in consumer products, such as perfumes, personal care items, household goods, and food and beverages. This role will be responsible for plant design, data management & control, 3D virtualization and engineering specification assurance, and will involve preparation of process and instrument drawings (P&ID), equipment general arrangement drawings, iso-metric piping designs and vessel installations in the chemical plant manufacturing areas
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide mechanical design expertise and equipment layout support for modifications to existing systems and installation of new systems
Prepare preliminary and detailed design documents for the installation of mechanical piping and distribution systems according to engineers supplied conceptual design or project scope as provided by the Project Engineer
Prepare preliminary and detailed design documents for the installation of instrument systems according to engineers supplied conceptual design or Project Engineer’s scope
Supervise external contractors in drawing development
During the projects’ construction phase, function as field engineer. Specifically, provide clarifications to all requests for information from either client's engineering team or outside contractors
Prepare and issue to the field detailed design revisions of documentation to correct design errors/omissions and/or to reflect engineers’ requested changes
Support supervision of construction work in progress and the completed construction to ensure consistence of the construction with the detailed design documentation
Implement changes to P&ID drawings from process change notifications (PCN)
Drive and implement the virtualization of the plant using AutoCAD 3D and 3D scanning
Maintain all project documents including specifications, drawings, equipment data sheets, instrument data sheets and engineering standards in a repository database
Maintain ACAD document publishing equipment (printers, scanners)
Required Qualifications:
Minimum of a High School diploma, Engineering degree
5+ years' experience in plant design and AutoCAD software
Ability to apply virtualization concepts to 3D modeling
Ability to develop and maintain document database
Demonstrated expertise in design of mechanical piping and distribution systems, including layout, routing, and equipment interaction
Ability to prepare design concepts through technical drawings utilizing client's standard specifications and standards
Strong knowledge of chemical plant equipment and instrumentation
Demonstrated specific expertise in the design of the instrument portion of P&ID’s, equipment specification and layout
Proficiency with Word, Excel and CMMS software
Work Environment:
The work area is congested with processing equipment. Follow safety requirements as directed in the SOP’s, this includes dust masks or full- or half-face cartridge respirators as well as heat- / chemical-resistant gloves, aprons, and/or boots, face shields/goggles.
Physical work environment requires working outdoors during inclement weather, in and around production equipment at high levels and in confined spaces.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
