Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Senior Underwriter specializing in Excess Construction and Commercial Casualty insurance. This role involves evaluating, analyzing, and underwriting complex risks while developing and maintaining profitable portfolios. The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of the construction industry, excess liability, and commercial casualty markets, with strong decision-making and relationship-building skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Risk Assessment and Underwriting:
- Evaluate new and renewal submissions for excess construction and commercial casualty risks.
- Analyze risk exposure, terms, and pricing to provide tailored solutions.
- Apply underwriting guidelines, authority levels, and company standards in decision-making.
- Portfolio Management:
- Build and manage a profitable book of business, ensuring balance and diversification.
- Monitor performance metrics such as loss ratios, retention rates, and premium growth.
- Relationship Management:
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers, agents, and clients.
- Conduct underwriting meetings, presentations, and training to enhance partnerships.
- Market and Product Knowledge:
- Stay current on market trends, regulatory updates, and competitive positioning.
- Collaborate with internal teams to develop new products or refine existing offerings.
- Collaboration and Mentorship:
- Work closely with other underwriting, claims, and actuarial teams to support profitability.
- Provide mentorship to junior underwriters or colleagues, sharing expertise and insights.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Business, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of underwriting experience, particularly in excess construction and commercial casualty.
- In-depth knowledge of construction industry risks, excess liability, and umbrella insurance.
- Proficiency in underwriting tools, risk models, and financial analysis.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and make decisions within underwriting authority.
Preferred
- Advanced insurance designations (e.g., CPCU, RPLU, ARM).
- Experience with multiline underwriting or large/complex accounts.
