Resident Engineer
Chicagoland Area – Fully Onsite
$120–160K (Depending on Experience) – Full Time with Benefits
Take your career to the next level with us! R.M. Chin & Associates, Inc. (R.M. Chin) is seeking an experienced, Engineer III / Resident Engineer to join our Transportation group. In this role, you will oversee roadway construction projects and act as the liaison between the client and the contractor. You will manage a staff of 10+ individuals amongst different consultants and testing firms to coordinate and ensure the proper inspection and documentation of contractor work activities.
Job Duties :
- Ensure proper construction of transportation related infrastructure.
- Coordinate with contractors, outside consultants and clients, internal consultants and staff.
- Proper documentation of all necessary project paperwork using various client web-based project management software.
- Overseeing a team of 10+ staff members ensuring project specifications are being followed.
- Timely processing of pay estimates and authorizations, and the satisfactory completion of inspectors IDRs and contractor activities.
- Monitoring of erosion control and environmental measures, the proper installation of MOT measures, and inspection of HMA, PCC, bridge, and wall structures.
- Oversee and facilitate weekly meetings with clients, contractors, various utilities, and other stakeholders as needed.
- Serves as a representative of the company and its clients at meetings, presentations, and public hearings relative to assigned projects.
- Oversees construction oversight efforts to ensure projects are constructed in accordance with design, budget, and schedule, and enforces contractor compliance to plans and specifications.
- Organize and chair scheduled project progress meetings.
- Ensure accurate field records are being maintained, such as daily reports, test reports, and as-built drawings.
- Oversees post-construction phase, final deliverables, reviewing final pay request and punch lists, coordinating final acceptance inspections, tracking of warranties, and preparation of final invoicing.
- Evaluate, resolve, and provide solutions to contractors and construction inspectors for constructability issues encountered at construction sites.
- Full technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating construction engineering assignments.
- Acts as on-site liaison between Client, Company Personnel, and Contractor in resolution of project issues.
- Acts as a specialist in the application of advanced concepts, principles, techniques, and procedures for an assigned area of responsibility.
- Analyzes complex construction/design problems requiring the development of new or improved techniques or procedures and consults with design engineering personnel.
Qualifications :
- Education – Bachelor's or Master’s degree in civil engineering, or construction management equivalent from an accredited / ABET institution.
- Experience – 10+ years of construction management experience working both in an office setting and in the field.
- Licensure - Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) required
