Job Responsibilities
Under direct supervision, Sex Offender Agent I is expected to have a thorough understanding of the sex offender conditions, laws, restrictions and forms that are associated with the program. Monitors and documents the enforcement of the condition of non-sex offender supervision. Understands the South Carolina Sex Offender Registry requirements, proximity limitations on where the offenders may live, work, and frequent, sex offender treatment processes, and the use of digital media. Agents are also expected to be able to identify red flag behaviors associated with reoffending. Agents need to understand the offense cycle of sex offenders in order to determine if an offender is at risk of acting out. Further, they need to have an understanding of various treatment methods for sex offenders in order to monitor their progress.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
A bachelor's degree with at least 15 semester hours in social or behavioral science courses; an associate's degree and two (2) years of military or certified law enforcement experience (to include Class 1 or Offender Supervision Specialist experience) may be substituted; or a high school diploma and four (4) years of military or certified law enforcement experience (to include Class 1 or Offender Supervision Specialist experience) may be substituted. Experience in probation and parole work.
Preferred Qualifications
A bachelor's degree with at least 15 semester hours in social or behavioral science courses; an associate's degree and two (2) years of military or certified law enforcement experience (to include Class 1 or Offender Supervision Specialist experience) may be substituted; or a high school diploma and four (4) years of military or certified law enforcement experience (to include Class 1 or Offender Supervision Specialist experience) may be substituted. Knowledge of sex offender population and specialized supervision techniques. Experience in probation and parole work.
