Job Title: SAP BO Developer


Location: Charlotte NC

Job Summary:

We are looking for an experienced SAP BusinessObjects (BO) Developer to design, develop, optimize, and maintain enterprise-level BI solutions. The role requires expertise in report development, Universe design, performance tuning, and BO administration, with a strong understanding of database integration and backend optimization. The ideal candidate will work closely with business stakeholders, data engineers, and analysts to deliver high-performance reporting solutions aligned with business needs.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Report & Dashboard Development

  • Develop, enhance, and maintain BO reports using Web Intelligence (WebI), Crystal Reports, and BO Dashboards.
  • Create interactive dashboards using SAP Lumira, Design Studio, or Tableau (if applicable).
  • Design pixel-perfect reports for financial, operational, and analytical reporting needs.
  • Implement advanced reporting techniques, including:
  • Drill-through, hierarchies, cascading prompts, sections, and alerts.
  • Conditional formatting, sub-reports, and scheduled publications.
  • Multi-source reports combining data from different databases.

2. Universe Design & Data Modeling

  • Design and develop Universes (.unx/.unv) using Information Design Tool (IDT) and Universe Design Tool (UDT).
  • Define data relationships, derived tables, joins, contexts, and aggregate awareness.
  • Optimize Universe performance using:
  • Indexing, partitioning, and SQL tuning.
  • Materialized views, derived tables, and calculated measures.
  • Connection pooling and query optimization.
  • Ensure Universes align with business requirements and are optimized for large-scale reporting.

3. Data Integration & Backend Development

  • Extract, transform, and present data from Snowflake, SAP HANA, Oracle, SQL Server, or PostgreSQL.
  • Write and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, and views for reporting efficiency.
  • Collaborate with ETL developers (Informatica, SSIS, SAP Data Services) to ensure efficient data pipelines.
  • Debug and resolve data discrepancies, missing records, and slow query performance.

4. BO Administration & Security Management

  • Manage SAP BO Central Management Console (CMC) and BI LaunchPad for user and report access.
  • Configure BO servers, nodes, and clusters for optimal performance.
  • Set up row-level, object-level, and column-level security based on user roles.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve server crashes, job failures, and connectivity issues.
  • Implement backup strategies and disaster recovery plans for BO infrastructure.

5. Performance Tuning & Optimization

  • Monitor report execution times and implement performance improvements (e.g., caching, indexing).
  • Reduce report refresh times using query stripping, aggregate awareness, and optimized SQL.
  • Optimize BO scheduling and bursting mechanisms for large-scale reporting.
  • Work with DBAs to enhance database indexing, partitioning, and query optimization.

6. Collaboration & Business Engagement

  • Work closely with business analysts, finance, and operations teams to gather report requirements.
  • Translate business needs into efficient and scalable BI solutions.
  • Conduct training sessions for end users on WebI, BO Dashboards, and Universe navigation.
  • Document reporting standards, best practices, and Universe guidelines.

Required Skills & Experience:

Technical Skills:

? 10+ years of experience in SAP BusinessObjects 4.x (BOBJ / BOE) report and Universe development.

? Strong expertise in Web Intelligence (WebI), Crystal Reports, and BO Dashboards.

? Proficiency in Universe Design (IDT/UDT), data modeling, and metadata management.

? Advanced SQL knowledge for query development, performance tuning, and stored procedures.

? Experience integrating BO with Snowflake, SAP HANA, Oracle, SQL Server, or PostgreSQL.

? Hands-on experience with BO CMC (Central Management Console) for administration.

? Experience with ETL tools (Informatica, SSIS, SAP Data Services) and data integration.

? Knowledge of Control-M or other scheduling tools for automated report execution.

? Exposure to SAP BI SDK (if customization is required).

? Understanding of Power BI/Tableau (if migrating or integrating with BO).

Soft Skills:

? Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for debugging issues.

? Ability to collaborate with business users and translate requirements into technical solutions.

? Excellent written and verbal communication for documentation and stakeholder engagement.

? Ability to work in agile, fast-paced environments and manage multiple projects.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • SAP BusinessObjects Certification is a plus.
  • Knowledge of cloud-based BI solutions (AWS, Azure, GCP) is a plus.
  • Experience in BO Migration projects (BO to Power BI/Tableau) is an advantage.
