JOB SUMMARY: The Senior Process Engineer is responsible for the design, engineering, and implementation of designs for process/ chemical systems within industrial facilities.
JOB DUTIES:
- Proficient in designing piping systems that transport gases, chemicals, and liquids within the industrial facility. Selection of appropriate materials, sizing pipes, and ensuring efficient flow rates.
- Create detailed piping layouts.
- Develop process flow diagrams, process, and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), system layout plans (optimizing space utilization and ensuring efficient workflow), equipment sizing and selection (such as pumps, compressors, and heat exchangers), and associated specification write-ups.
- Execute process design from conceptual design and criteria development through construction document production and provide engineering support during construction.
- Serve as lead process engineer for select projects, including supervising assigned mechanical drafting and engineering resources.
- Prepare cost estimates as needed for piping systems.
- Perform field observations and obtain information on existing conditions on select projects.
- Interface with multiple engineering disciplines, project management, system owners, vendors and contractors via phone, email, and live meetings.
- Perform engineering calculations and communicate on PC system.
- Design chemical process systems utilizing pressure loss and stress analysis programs.
- Serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for process systems, and continue to broaden and deepen your own expertise in the process engineering and construction field.
- Contribute to monthly mechanical project controls reports.
- Actively identify and manage risk for clients and the company.
- Comply with Company’s Quality Control and Project Management procedures.
- Support recruiting mechanical team
- Maintain membership and participate in select applicable local professional engineering society and encourage other mechanical engineers to do the sane.
- Promote a positive working environment in order to achieve the organization’s goals.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in a Vestal Corporation office.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and able to operate a computer and other office equipment.
- Must be able to move about the office to access office equipment and other office buildings within the Vestal office complex.
- This position frequently communicates with others and must be able to exchange accurate information.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time.
KNOWLEDGE / SKILL / ABILITY / EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering is required.
- 10+ years of experience is required.
- PE is preferred.
- Experience with AutoCAD and Revit is required.
- Knowledge of chemical process systems control philosophy including P&ID development.
- Experience with the design and engineering of systems that consist of fluid transfer, heat exchange, friction loss in piping systems, ultrapure/high purity water systems, specialty gas and chemical systems, solvent/acid/hazardous wastewater treatment systems or other related systems.
- Strong familiarity of piping materials and equipment required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated critical thinking skills, ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
- Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
- Familiarity with Lean design practices is preferred.
- Requires effective time management skills, personal conduct, and change management abilities.
- Ability to effectively interact with co-workers, clients, vendors, and other business contacts.
