Reporting to the President/CEO, the Head of Finance is an active member of the executive management team and is responsible for the internal business affairs of the Organization. The Head of Finance oversees the Organization's finance, information technology and development services and systems functions in support of Organization strategies and objectives. The Head of Finance is the employee representative to the Audit and Investment & Finance Committees and interfaces with Board members as needed.


Job Summary

  • Participates as an active member of the Organization’s executive management team.
  • Oversees all accounting and finance functions, including developing and managing the annual budget and generating monthly and annual financial reporting to management and the board
  • Develops, documents and maintains fiscal policies and procedures to ensure a stable and transparent financial infrastructure and adequate internal controls.
  • Manages relationships with the Organization’s auditors and tax compliance firm. Responsible for ensuring compliance with state and federal regulatory requirements.
  • Manages relationship with outside legal counsel. Acts as primary liaison for all legal matters.
  • Oversees management of portfolio of investments, including permanent endowment, term portfolios, and charitable trust assets, under advisement of outside investment advisor and Investment & Finance committee.
  • Manages all treasury activities. Monitors cash flow and ensures appropriate segregation of cash flows between different functions. Leads fund raising initiatives.
  • Ensures Organization has appropriate and adequate insurance coverages.
  • Manages development services and systems teams, including database management.
  • Functions as the chief privacy officer, ensuring compliance with HIPAA and PCI DSS regulations, including developing, documenting and implementing appropriate privacy and security policies and procedures.
  • Functions as an advisor to development and program teams in fiscal, legal and regulatory matters.
  • Recommends new approaches, procedures and processes to effect continual improvements in efficiency of department and services performed
  • Responsible for implementing robust financial control environment to ensure costs including capital expenditures are adequately monitored across the organization.
  • Leads or supports ad hoc projects including, but not restricted to new investments, commercial projects, business development initiatives.
  • Partner the business leaders in the financial analysis of their segments.
  • Responsible for analyzing and documenting the risks faced by the business and reporting these risks to to the audit committee or Board.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required.

Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or scientific field.
  • Certified Public Accountant certification may be an advantage.
  • 10-15 years’ experience in public accounting, business, and/or nonprofit organizations.
  • At least 5 years as a Chief Finance Officer or Head of Finance with demonstrated leadership ability.
  • Experience designing, documenting and implementing process and procedure to ensure financial resources are being used to support Organization objectives.
  • Strong technical accounting skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Creative and effective manager and leader.
  • Solid analytical, organizational and planning skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong computer skills; comfortable working with automated accounting systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Highly organized with meticulous attention to detail.
  • High level of productivity, initiative, and excellent judgment.
  • Ability to exercise good judgement and handle confidential and sensitive information with the utmost discretion.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced and busy environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse staff across an institution; strong team player with recognized leadership capacity and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to communicate directly and effectively with others.
  • Tactfulness, flexibility, and creativity are essential in working with diverse population groups (constituents, physicians, faculty, staff, vendors, etc.).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • A demonstrated ability to produce error free work when performing a variety of functions such as typing, text editing, data entry, file management, and calculations is required.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends on occasion.
  • Ability to work independently in a team environment.
  • Proven ability to be resilient and adaptable in the face of changing priorities.
  • A genuine interest in children and their health.


Preferred

  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and experience managing HIPAA compliance.
  • Knowledge of PCI DSS regulations and experience managing related compliance.
  • Basic knowledge of investment strategies for permanent and term endowments, including managing payout, monitoring asset allocation and reporting.
  • Experience managing information technology and database systems
