About Sierra Vista:About the Sierra Vista area:
An outdoor-lover's paradise, Sierra Vista is an Arizona sky island at 4,500 to 5,000 feet elevation with temperatures typically 20 degrees cooler than Phoenix. Spanish for "mountain view," Sierra Vista was named for the many mountain ranges in the area. Hiking, biking, horseback riding, off-roading, bird watching, and spelunking in the mountains are just some of the many activities residents enjoy. The limestone rich Mustang and Whetstone mountain ranges hold one of Arizona's true geological treasures, Kartchner Caverns State Park.
Just 30 minutes from town, Fort Huachuca offers a number of recreational opportunities including a military museum. Parker Canyon Lake, a 130-acre lake perfect for fishing, boating and camping, is only an hour's drive! Sierra Vista is internationally known as the "Hummingbird Capital of the United States." Head east from the river to visit Tombstone for some old western charm or southeast to Bisbee, an old copper mining town nestled in the mountains, which has transformed into an art, music, and cultural hub.
