Product EngineerA product engineer is responsible for maintaining cable design control, engineering administrative processes, and data systems in support of manufacturing fiber optics cables. Key responsibilities include: ensuring engineering processes are optimized to ensure efficiency and accuracy, engineering oversight of product engineering systems and processes to ensure timely item builds and customer responses, specification management, and timely execution of engineering changes. The role is critical to maintaining customer's expectations and putting the customer first. The role requires someone who is flexible, able to work with numerous departments, is detail oriented, and driven to mistake free work. The position is within the Product Engineering department and reports into the Product Engineering Manager.
Job Requirements- Bachelors of Science in Engineering (or other related technical discipline)
- Supplemental education in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or work equivalent.
- 1+ years experience with SQL data management and/or development.
- 3+ years advanced computer skills - MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access experience. Oracle or other ERP systems.
- 1+ years developing using VBA in Access is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal, influencing, and teamwork skills.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Effective time management and organizational skills.
- Experience with engineered products preferred.
- Fiber optic industry experience, especially cable processing and/or applications preferred.
Responsibilities- Support development and management of all product engineering systems and databases.
- Develop strategies for data acquisitions, archive recovery, and implementation of a database.
- Work directly with internal customers in support of internal customer application issues/inquiries.
- Create reports and query relevant data in support of internal customer requests.
- Automate manual data processes, optimize user queries, and facilitate data research and understanding while partnering with analysts and business specialists
- Participate in the development of new ETL processes and Back End integrations to make new and existing data sources readily available to other business systems, applications, and outside business partners using SQL Server and SSIS.
- Lead product engineering projects that focus on efficiencies, mistake-proofing, and process improvements.
- Support product line management initiatives including commercial strategies and documentation.
- Support of all product engineering processes and systems including:
- Cable design data/database for design control.
- Item setup within ERP systems.
- Customer specification revision control.
- Regulatory compliance data and responses.
- Support execution of engineering changes.
- Manage and prioritize customer complaints and corrective actions to ensure efficient completion of tasks.
