We are seeking a full time
Quality Test LabEngineer to join our Quality team in Duncan, SC. The Quality Lab Design Test Engineer will provide technical support for the execution and evaluation of optical, mechanical, and environmental testing of fiber optic cables, connectivity and apparatus testing to ensure compliance to test requirements through development and support of processes, plans, and procedures.
The Engineer will work closely with internal departments such as Operations, Product Development, Process Engineering, Logistics, Quality, and with External Customers to provide them with world class product test and validation support.
This role includes developing measurement systems requirements, developing calibration processes, specifying capital and expense equipment, and project management.
Responsibilities- Provide technical support for the optical, mechanical, and environmental testing of fiber optic cables, connectivity and apparatus for initial qualification / requalification, customer complaints, and cost saving projects.
- Provide technical support to the calibration and testing program in accordance with Quality System requirements.
- Review and interpret complicated specifications and communicate requirements effectively to team.
- Implement, create procedures, and conduct training for new test fixtures and equipment required for product testing
- Source, obtain quote, recommend and purchase required lab supplies, materials and equipment needed to support the testing of fiber optic cables, connectivity and apparatus.
- Configure, implement and deploy test fixtures, testing apparatus and equipment as required by the test specification and verify their appropriateness.
- Assist in scheduling and prioritizing of all daily laboratory testing.
- Ensure the yearly requalification schedule complies with requirements.
- Analyze and interpret test data and communicate results to various levels of the organization.
- Represent the test laboratory during audits and customer type approvals.
- Coordinate and schedule testing by independent laboratories due to capability and/or capacity constraints. Verify test results for compliance to specific parameters.
- Create or revise documents for new and existing practices, test methods, and equipment to define the process for verifying design intent and test product requirements. Ensure accuracy and compliance to documents.
- Train associates to test methods.
- Participate in meetings with design and product engineers to discuss qualification/re-qualification needs and review of test results.
- Ensure laboratory equipment is maintained and a PM program is utilized.
- Execute capital projects to improve laboratory functionality.
- Lead continuous improvement efforts in the test areas, including test variability reduction, development of new/improved test methods, and cost reduction.

Qualifications- Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering discipline required
- 4 + years' experience in manufacturing related industries preferred
- Intermediate Proficiency with 3-D CAD software, Solidworks is preferred
- Basic project management skills
- Technical knowledge of laboratory equipment, tools, supplies, and materials.
- A working knowledge of fiber optics and/or cable manufacturing desirable.
- Proficient user of MS Office. Minitab a plus.
- Green-belt or equivalent certification is a plus.
- Experience of working in an ISO-9001 environment preferred.
- Execution of tests in strict accordance with the quality system and requirements.
- Ongoing commitment to advance knowledge in the field of fiber optics, testing, and standards compliance.
Working Conditions- Able to support off-shift and/or weekend operations.
