We have a Joint Center on one of our wings for our Total Joint Patients. Fourth floor is a fast past unit that provides care to postoperative patients that have had Total Joint and other Orthopedic, Urology, Gynecology, General and Vascular surgical surgeries. It is a great unit to gain experience in Chest tubes, Colostomies, NG Tubes, Wound Vacs, and post-surgical care and for new nurses to gain a foundation to grow in their career. The 4th floor Leadership team is focused on Teamwork and positive co-worker recognition for staff as well as recognition from patient and family feedback.Summary:Performssafe patient handling including patient transfer, ambulation, mobility andpatient care working independently, as part of a pair, and/or part of a teamwith nursing and therapy staff. Safepatient handling will include utilization of mechanical equipment to accomplishhigh-risk transfers, as well as, associated equipment maintenance, inventoryand accessibility. Performs assigned duties to include a variety ofnonprofessional nursing duties in the direct care of patients on an inpatientsetting under the direct supervision of an RN/LPN and/or therapy staff. Works to promote the culture of mobility withpatients, patients' families, and treatment team. All essential functions performed in thisposition reflect the age-specific needs of the geriatric adult and adolescent patient. Responsibilities:Primary responsibility is to provide mobility interventions for patients under the direction of the RN and in collaboration with the Department of Rehabilitation Services. Assists with activities of daily living (ADLs) with a focus on mobility such as ambulation positioning and toileting. Assists patients with dressing/undressing within the context of promoting mobility.Utilizes patient handling equipment, transfer devices, and protective equipment in compliance with Hospital policies and patient handling protocols while utilizing proper body mechanics and observation. Records and provides data to analyze key performance indicators.Maintains a safe patient environment through interventions and routine observations. Complies with nursing and infection control practices in accordance with established Hospital and department policies and procedures, organizational goals and objectives. Encourages improved activity levels for patients as medically indicated.Prepare patients, equipment and supplies for specific procedures and provide manual assistance as required. Obtain and record patient data for medical records noting and informing RN/LPN of information collected. Administer treatment and personal care procedures to patients including, but not limited to, feeding, bathing, shaving, changing clothing, cleaning and trimming fingernails, bed-making, assisting with ambulation, enemas, skin care, and bowel and bladder elimination; provide such additional care as required to meet the personal needs and comfort of assigned patients.Participate in teaching activities by reinforcing teaching instructed by RN and/or physician as needed. Assist physician and nurses with physical examinations by helping position patient and weighing patients. Turn and position patients, set up and feed patients as necessary, provide patients with fresh drinking water. Perform finger sticks for blood glucose testing, with appropriate training.Assist with admission, discharge, and transportation of patients. Follow standard precautions and use personal protective equipment as required.Clean assigned area; stock and replenish supplies and equipment as required. 1Other InformationOther information:Education Requirements:•High School diploma or equivalent required.
