Lead R&D Scientist – Sustainable Plastic Film Innovation
We are looking for an innovative Lead R&D Scientist specializing in polymer chemistry, chemical engineering, or material science to drive research in sustainable packaging and new plastic film development . The ideal candidate will bring extensive expertise in biopolymers , material analysis, and at least five years of experience developing new plastic film products in a manufacturing environment. You will lead research projects, solve complex manufacturing challenges, and advance product offerings in biodegradable and stretch film technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead R&D initiatives related to stretch film, biopolymers, and plastics , leveraging your expertise in polymer chemistry and chemical engineering.
- Conduct material analysis testing using advanced methods to evaluate properties and performance of sustainable packaging materials.
- Develop and optimize formulations , including additives and biodegradable materials like PHA and PLA , to meet product and market requirements.
- Perform root cause analysis and troubleshoot manufacturing and material-related issues, proposing innovative solutions and testing new methodologies.
- Analyze large data sets and perform statistical analysis to derive actionable insights for product improvements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams , including engineering, production, and external contractors, to ensure successful implementation of new materials, technologies, and equipment in the manufacturing process.
- Lead, mentor, and manage direct reports and project teams, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
- Drive continuous improvement efforts within the stretch film manufacturing process, enhancing extrusion efficiency, material performance, and product quality.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring tasks are prioritized and deadlines are met in a dynamic environment.
- Prepare and present technical reports , documenting research findings, methodologies, and recommendations to stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Polymer Chemistry, Chemical Engineering , or Material Science .
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in plastic film product development and sustainable packaging within a manufacturing environment.
- Proven expertise in material analysis testing methods .
- Strong background in working with biopolymers and biodegradable materials such as PHA and PLA.
- Demonstrated success in creating innovative formulations within the plastics or stretch film market.
- Proven leadership experience, with a track record of managing projects and mentoring technical teams.
- Strong technical aptitude in troubleshooting manufacturing processes , extrusion equipment, and supporting systems.
- Advanced proficiency in data analysis and statistical evaluation of large datasets.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with stretch film extrusion processes and a deep understanding of extrusion equipment.
- Strong organizational skills, with an emphasis on attention to detail, task prioritization, and effective time management.
- Experience building relationships with external contractors and equipment suppliers.
This is a national search, and we are open to candidates willing to relocate. The role requires onsite presence, with relocation support available for qualified candidates.
