My client, a reputable company in the manufacturing space, is looking to bring on a Corporate Counsel for Labor & Employment to report directly to the Associate General Counsel (AGC) and will be primarily responsible for managing all legal matters related to labor, employment, benefits, immigration, and workplace safety laws.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide guidance to the company on day-to-day employment law issues to ensure compliance with applicable labor, employment, benefits, immigration, and workplace safety regulations (including NLRA, Title VII, Section 1981, FMLA, ADA, AADEA, ERISA, and OSHA).
- Advise on matters related to medical leave and workers' compensation.
- Counsel the company on employment terminations, including identifying and managing associated legal risks.
- Support HR in managing unemployment compensation claims.
- Assist in the drafting and updating of employment-related policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with other Legal & Compliance team members to conduct investigations, audits, and training in labor, employment, benefits, immigration, and workplace safety areas.
- Research legal issues and developments concerning labor, employment, benefits, immigration, and workplace safety.
- Track and communicate updates on changes in laws related to labor, employment, benefits, immigration, and workplace safety.
- Manage and handle litigation, arbitration, and mediation matters, with a particular focus on employment-related disputes and workers' compensation cases.
- Oversee the administration of garnishments, service of process, and subpoena responses, coordinating with other members of the Legal & Compliance team as necessary.
- Maintain the highest standards of ethical conduct, including: (1) avoiding conflicts of interest and undue influence; (2) ensuring strict adherence to company policies and procedures; (3) being transparent, honest, and accountable; (4) reporting unethical or illegal behavior; and (5) safeguarding confidential information.
- Ensure compliance with Business Management System (BMS), Environmental Management System (EMS), and Safety Management System (SMS) requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Associate General Counsel or General Counsel.
Requirements:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an ABA-accredited law school is required.
- A minimum of 6 years of relevant experience, with a focus on labor and employment law, is preferred. Experience in a law firm setting, particularly advising and representing employers, is highly desirable.
