The Chief Operating Officer (COO) will oversee the daily operations of the structural steel company, ensuring efficient and effective management of all business functions. Reporting directly to the CEO, the COO will play a critical role in driving the company's growth, operational excellence, and strategic goals, with a strong focus on safety, quality, and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Planning & Leadership
- Collaborate with the CEO to develop and implement strategic plans aligned with the company's vision and goals.
- Provide leadership and guidance to department heads in operations, production, sales, and logistics.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and teamwork.
- Operations Management
- Oversee the production process, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
- Optimize operational processes to increase efficiency and reduce costs.
- Monitor and enforce compliance with industry regulations, company policies, and safety standards.
- Financial Oversight
- Work with the CFO to establish and monitor budgets, cost controls, and financial performance metrics.
- Ensure operational profitability by analyzing production costs, revenue streams, and market trends.
- Client Relations & Business Development
- Maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring exceptional service and satisfaction.
- Support sales efforts by assisting with project bids and contract negotiations.
- Identify new business opportunities and partnerships to drive growth.
- Team Development
- Build and mentor a high-performing management team.
- Oversee workforce planning, recruitment, and training programs to maintain a skilled and motivated workforce.
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols and promote a culture of workplace safety.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in the structural steel or construction industry, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of fabrication, erection, and project management processes in structural steel.
- Proven track record of improving operational performance and achieving business objectives.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in financial analysis and strategic planning.
- Experience with Tekla PowerFab
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with industry standards, including AISC, OSHA regulations, and quality control systems.
- Experience in managing large-scale projects and teams.
