Currently our client a leading company is seeking a Plant Manager to join their growing team. The suitable individual will have extensive experience within a Manufacturing Environment.
This role will report to the VP/Director of Operations and will have direct management responsibility for one of the largest facilities in Canada of it's type, which includes a shred line and plastic separation (float sink) line. This role is responsible for employee health and safety, production throughput/efficiency and quality/yield and sustainability targets, cost management, regulatory compliance, labour/employee relations and equipment maintenance in a mechanized and labour intensive processing facility
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Team Leadership
- Build the team - recruit for, measure and manage staff performance
- Coach and develop a high-performance workforce and effective employee/labour relations through effective training, mentoring, and performance management
- Cost Control
- Ensure direct and indirect labor performance is within or exceeds budget/target on aggregate
- Implement and oversee processes that maximize material recovery and reduce environmental impact
- Anticipate and ensure necessary manpower, competence, skill, knowledge, tooling, training, supervisory support and equipment availability as and when required

- Monthly score card – labor cost variance (direct and indirect)

- Ensure up-time and throughput performance of the lines is within or exceeds budget/target through a robust maintenance plan and strict execution
- Oversee maintenance schedules for equipment to prevent downtime and ensure maximum operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with the maintenance manager for timely repairs and preventive maintenance tasks.
- Ensure proper house-keeping in the shred line and float sink area to facilitate a safe and productive work environment
- Maintain minimum inventory levels on floor of shred line and float sink finished product and ensure these are continuously being shipped out

- Enforce all safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements to ensure a safe workplace
- Guide, coach and monitor implementation of Safety-at-Source Program ensuring all metrics are captured
- Ensure direct reports are following discipline of updating and maintaining all safety-related documentation/forms at start/end of shift. The overall accountability lies with the Plant Manager.
- Always ensure and uphold tight data and asset security
- Monitor and control discipline of logging incidents/CARs and all compliance/safety related reports.
- Have an effective plant cleaning plan and enforce strict discipline in execution of plan to keep the shop floor and plant working conditions to the highest standard possible.
- Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and corrective actions as required.

- Production planning, reporting and control (in the absence of production manager)
- Keep a track of all inventory – RM, WIP and FG and supervise production scheduling on a day-to-day basis, ensuring optimized utilization of labor while at the same time, maintaining acceptable inventory levels
- Establish and effectively communicate operational priorities to team
- Validate SAP and Power-App data to ensure data integrity
- Prepare and/or view regular/periodic reports on production, quality, safety, and budget performance
- Analyze data and KPIs to make informed operational decisions and present insights to leadership
- Cross-functional support duties
- Work closely with Strategic Sourcing team to ensure that quality of outputs is being maintained and that commodities are being shipped out as per SOPs and downstream matrix along with the right output codes and to move out “Special items” in a timely manner.
- Work closely with Logistics team to ensure shipping binder is being followed and schedules and load density targets are being met
- Work with and provide support to Sales team and client relations and provide logistical support to set up new customers/accounts and/or programs.
- Ensure accuracy of mass balance
- Coordinate with Compliance to be audit ready at all times; Ensure on-going compliance with regulatory requirements to maintain certifications such as ISO 14001, 18001, 45001, as well as Company SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures)
- Support Opex team with timely and accurate updates for monthly score-card and help to update/maintain SOPs and HAAs as required and also help conduct annual yield tests
- Work closely with Finance/inside Sales to ensure compliance with stewardship programs and customers regarding the classification of eligible and ineligible incoming material, standard tare weights, use of proper input codes; and follow new load closing protocols to help facilitate accurate and prompt billing.
- Provide vacation coverage for all members of the team as and when needed
- Work closely with HR partner to provide support for HR related tasks e.g. EE files, interviews, new staff orientation, etc.
- Assume responsibility for leasehold improvement tasks and property upkeep.

- Month-end mass balance to be kept under 5%, or as close to zero as possible

- # non-conformances in shipping documentation or loading instructions
- # errors in load reports (receiving)
- Diversion rate (within 96%)
- # non-conformances for quality of outputs e.g. batteries in shred bound material, impurities in circuit boards or PM material, etc

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Prior success with leading operations in a plant/operations manager role (at least 5 years experience) with the aptitude to continuously assess, prioritize and adjust to multiple variables to meet budgets and/or standards
- Ability to quickly learn and maintain a solid understanding of key plant equipment and associated maintenance tasks, “deman” processes and commodities produced in order to leverage key metrics, probe and react proactively, optimize and drive effective cost management and continuous improvement processes /decisions.
- Line management experience in a manufacturing environment – Production scheduling including monitoring and control, engineering (preferred), Quality, Health & Safety, Labour/Employee Relations
- Achievement oriented with a demonstrated ability to co-ordinate and balance all relevant inputs within multiple scenarios to ensure employee engagement and targets are achieved
- Solid understanding and hands-on application of health and safety best practices and legislation
- Strong sense of urgency and effective problem-solving skills (creative and rational) particularly within competing priorities and tight timelines
- Excellent communication skills for effective verbal and written communication at all levels and across different functional departments of the company
- Demonstration of compelling leadership style while upholding core values of the company
- Demonstrated experience in implementing and managing change effectively
- Mechanical engineering degree (preferred)
- Strong knowledge of e-waste recycling processes and regulatory requirements is preferred
- Proficiency in data analysis, reporting tools, and ERP systems
- Ability to manage budgets, analyze financial data, and make cost-effective decisions
