The Role
The Human Resources Director will oversee all aspects of the HR function, from talent acquisition to employee engagement and development, while working closely with senior leadership. The role combines strategic vision with hands-on execution, making it ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced and evolving environment. This onsite position can be based in Calgary, Edmonton or Ottawa.
Key Responsibilities
1. Leadership & Strategy
- Lead, mentor, and develop an HR team aligned with the organization’s vision and values.
- Create and implement HR strategies that support business objectives and drive organizational performance.
- Collaborate with leadership to cultivate a workplace culture focused on inclusion, engagement, and excellence.
2. Talent Acquisition & Development
- Oversee recruitment, onboarding, and retention processes to ensure the organization attracts and keeps top talent.
- Develop employee growth initiatives, including training programs, career development plans, and succession planning.
- Drive performance management strategies that support individual and team success.
3. Workplace Culture & Employee Relations
- Foster a positive, productive work environment by addressing employee concerns and resolving conflicts effectively.
- Develop and implement employee engagement programs to enhance morale, satisfaction, and retention.
- Advise leadership on labor relations, performance management, and organizational development.
4. Compensation & Benefits
- Manage compensation and benefits programs to ensure equity, competitiveness, and compliance.
- Continuously evaluate offerings to meet employee needs and organizational goals.
5. Compliance & Best Practices
- Ensure compliance with federal and provincial employment laws, as well as internal policies.
- Regularly review and update HR policies and handbooks to align with legal and best practice standards.
6. Data & Metrics
- Use HR analytics to evaluate the effectiveness of HR programs and identify areas for improvement.
- Provide actionable insights to leadership on key metrics like engagement, turnover, and performance.
What We’re Looking For
The ideal candidate will bring:
- A bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- 8+ years of progressive HR experience, including at least 3 years in a senior leadership role.
- In-depth knowledge of HR best practices, employment law, compensation, and labor relations.
- Bilingual proficiency (French and English) required.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- A data-driven mindset with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively.
