Summary

The EHS Manager is responsible for deploying, implementing, and leading the EHS agenda by supporting the Management team with integration of Safety and Environmental, prevention, workers' compensation and regulatory compliance into everyday work life at MPP. The EHS Manager has responsibility to analyze accident data, develop and implement actionable safety and environmental solutions. The candidate is expected to provide collaborative, proactive, and creative problem-solving ability to develop best-in-class EHS programs for the improvement of the overall EHS strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Implement, execute, and ensure compliance with MPP EHS policies and procedures, and all federal, state, and local OSHA/EPA regulations.
  • Conduct & document near-miss and accident investigations to develop solutions that prevent or minimize reoccurrence.
  • Utilize leading indicator metrics to identify opportunities to proactively address safety improvements.
  • Promote and support improvement of EHS performance by identifying hazards, risks and developing recommendations and related action plans.
  • Manage the company hazard communication program including maintaining the SDS sheets on chemicals used in the facility.
  • Manage the company Workers Compensation program / case management
  • Process Safety Management, including Management of Change (MOC) and Process Hazard Analysis
  • Develop, implement, execute, and manage strategies to prevent workplace injuries, and environmental incidents.
  • Conduct EHS activities such as training/auditing/assessing to ensure ongoing compliance with regulatory agency requirements and internal MPP EHS procedures.
  • Coordinate the safety and health portion of the site’s EHSA training program; Conduct New Hire Health and Safety Orientation Program training; Conduct Plant Safety Committee meetings.
  • Exercise a leadership, coordination, and communication role with the location leadership to drive continuous EHS improvement across the location
  • Complete root cause analyses and develop corrective action plans to address root basic causes and management system weak-spots through the use of industry-recognized cause analysis techniques (5-Why, 8-D, etc.).
  • Meet with State and Federal OSHA/EPA inspectors that visit the plant locations.
  • Complete feasibility, preliminary scope and justification for CAPEX projects to meet current and future facility requirements.
  • Develop and administer medical surveillance and biological monitoring in accordance with OSHA standards and corporate policy.
  • Coordinate EHS related response to customer, corporate, or regulatory agency audits and questionnaires.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Minimum Bachelor's degree in Safety Management or related field.

5 years’ work experience in EHS in a manufacturing/industrial environment.

OSHA 30-hour certification is required. CSP, STS, CHMM, CET, OHST or equivalent certifications highly preferred.

Knowledge of OSHA, EPA and DOT regulatory requirements as well as federal and state EHS requirements.

Must possess excellent verbal, written communication and presentation skills, including ability to effectively communicate with senior leadership.

Must have ability to make independent decisions and recommendations to effectively resolve problems or issues by exercising sound judgment that is consistent with regulation and government law as well as Company standards, practices, policies and procedures.

Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications required.

Demonstrated skills in handling issues involving high levels of sensitivity, confidentiality and/or legal exposure.

Must be able to travel up to 50% of the time.

Working Environment and Conditions

  1. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms.
  2. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  3. This position requires working in a manufacturing environment.
  4. The employee must be able to wear a respirator as well as the ability to enter confined spaces and working at heights.
  5. The employee may occasionally work nights, weekends, or non-regular hours.
