A leading Life Insurance company is currently seeking a Litigation Attorney who is capable of managing the entire litigation process, managing outside counsel, and supporting the business broadly. They would like this individual to support the Legal team's growth and add value to the business from day one. This position sits in their White Plains, NY office on a hybrid-basis.
This person will report directly to the Executive Director and Head Litigation Counsel, and as part of a lean team they will have high visibility with senior leadership, working closely with the business on all matters related to litigation. This position involves managing paralegal staff and addressing ad-hoc legal matters as they arise.
Responsibilities:
- Make court appearances, attend negotiations, meetings, and more
- Draft court documents; pleadings, briefs, discovery requests, demand letters, etc.
- Prepare and examine parties and witnesses in depositions
- Prepare Trustees' reports, opinion letters, settlement agreements/
- Coordinate internally with the company and it's affiliates, manage outside counsel, etc.
- Manage paralegal staff
Qualifications:
- JD; admittance to the Bar of New York State and Federal Courts
- 3+ years of litigation experience
- Analytical and advocacy skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Familiarity with ERISA (particularly multi-employer funds and withdrawal liability) is not a requirement, but is considered a significant plus
- Familiarity with Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, NYS Practice Law and Rules
