This position is part of the Connect 6ix project. Toronto's new Ontario Line subway is now under construction. The Connect 6ix consortium has a key role in this project, delivering the trains, the signaling system, and the operations, storage, and maintenance facility. Connect 6ix will also operate the Ontario Line for a 30-year term once it comes into service.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Field Engineer will play a crucial role in overseeing and executing construction activities on the site safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all regulatory requirements. This includes closely collaborating with project managers, engineers, construction teams, and stakeholders to ensure the successful completion of the project.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise construction activities at the site, ensuring adherence to project specifications, codes, and safety regulations.
- Conduct regular site inspections to monitor progress, identify potential issues, and ensure compliance with engineering and design requirements.
- Collaborate closely with project managers, architects, and subcontractors to ensure timely project completion.
- Analyse and interpret engineering plans, aerial photography, blueprints, topographical & geological data, and technical drawings to plan and execute construction activities.
- Coordinate the procurement and delivery of construction materials and equipment and oversee allocation of resources in compliance with industry standards.
- Identifying potential risks and implementing preventive measures to minimise project delays, cost overruns, and safety hazards.
- Reporting project updates, milestones, and potential risks to the project manager and key stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate project documentation, including progress reports, daily logs, site diaries, change orders, quality control measures, and as-built documentation.
- Manage subcontractors and labour crews, providing technical guidance and oversight throughout the project lifecycle.
- Monitor and control project costs, schedules, and quality, identifying and addressing any deviations or issues promptly.
- Maintain accurate project records, including daily logs, progress reports, and as-built documentation.
- Ensure occupational health and safety and environmental regulations are being complied with.
- Providing technical guidance and expertise to resolve construction-related challenges.
Education and Qualifications:
- University, College, or Postgraduate Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction, or related field.
- 5+ years of construction experience on multidisciplinary, large-scale railway and/or infrastructure projects.
- Proven experience in managing and supervising construction projects.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to oversee multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite and using project management software and tools (e.g. AutoCAD, Revit, MS Project, Primavera P6).
- Relevant certifications such as Professional Engineer and/or Project Management Professional are preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working collaboratively in a team environment.
- Demonstrate creativity, foresight, and mature judgment in anticipating and solving problems.
- Interface with clients on project activities including data gathering, site investigation, and project status.
