About the Company

The Product Engineer, Controls and Electrical is part of the Product Engineering team and reports to the Product Engineering Manager. The Product Engineer will develop, design, and implement controls and electrical solutions that are integral to Moffitt Ventilation products and provide ventilation to our customer’s buildings. The complexity of Moffitt control systems ranges from a simple on/off switch to a PLC controlled system that utilizes project and product-based information to determine system operation. This position requires 10%-20% overnight travel to manufacturing facilities and installation locations in North America for on-site technical support.

Responsibilities

• Control System Development & Design
• Develop and design control systems based on project, customer and product specific requirements.
• Integrate Moffitt products into a customer’s existing Control Systems (BAS/BMS).
• Ensure current products meet any relevant electrical codes and standards.
• Assemble prototypes and test panels as required.
• Create Design Verification Plans with acceptance criteria.
• Lead and/or support manufacturing prototype builds.
• Project Estimation
• Provide the project engineering team with accurate pricing information that can be used when bidding a control system on a project.
• Determine BOM/list of components required for a project including expected wire lengths/size/number of enclosures and supplier.
• Answer questions from a customer or be able to discuss a project scope with a potential subcontractor.
• Aid the project engineering team in development of technical proposal packages.
• Documentation
• Product and project specific technical drawings (wiring diagrams, panel layouts).
• PLC program and logic.
• Installation, Operation, and Maintenance manuals.
• Product Catalogs
• Moffitt Engineering Standards that define design requirements for any electrical component or system.
• Technical Support
• Troubleshooting of issues encountered during installation or normal operation of the Moffitt provided control system via phone call or video chat.
• Travel to a job site to investigate an issue and devise a plan or fix what is causing the issue.
• Root Cause Analysis

Qualifications

4-year engineering or technical degree with (2) years related experience and/or training.

Required Skills

Specific knowledge of or capable of learning: AC/DC motors, Variable Frequency Drives, induction and ECM motors, motor starters, industrial control systems (transformers, relays, wiring, connectors, fuses, circuit breakers, PLCs, signaling devices), PLC Programming, Ethernet communications, relevant codes and standards. Previous PLC programming experience (structured text, ladder logic, etc.). Must be proficient in use of Microsoft Office Suite and Acrobat/Bluebeam Revu. Experience with ACAD/SolidWorks is desired. Must be self-motivated, responsible, and dependable with ability to work independently as well as in group/team setting. Must be able to prioritize and apply appropriate urgency to tasks and situations. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with professional sales presence on phone, video calls and in person. Technical mindset that can be applied to design and problem solving.
