We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Staff Structural Design Engineer to lead and oversee all structural engineering aspects for our client's firm.
Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and ensure the quality of structural design services for the firm.
- Establish and uphold standards for structural analysis and design.
- Manage and support structural engineering projects, adhering to budgets and schedules.
- Oversee all structural engineering work, including performing, reviewing, and approving designs.
- Collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including clients, equipment manufacturers, suppliers, and other engineering firms.
- Maintain a valid PE license, actively pursue professional development, and stay current on industry trends and advancements.
You will be responsible for:
- Developing comprehensive structural design packages for various equipment, including calculations, drawings, and technical documents.
- Performing structural analysis, using static and dynamic FEA, and solving complex structural issues.
- Reviewing equipment manufacturer designs for compliance.
- Conducting structural assessments, evaluating NDT results, and overseeing fabrication, assembly, and testing of equipment.
- Participating in design and technical meetings at project sites, client offices, and manufacturers' locations.
- Performing site inspections for project equipment.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on structures from an ABET-accredited program.
- Current PE license in Civil/Structural Engineering (commitment to maintaining licensure required).
- 5+ years of experience in heavy equipment or steel structure design and FEA.
- Proficiency with structural FEA software, drafting software, and Microsoft products (3+ years).
- Working knowledge of specific software (FEMAP, Ansys, SolidWorks 3D, AutoCAD).
- Strong understanding of design codes (IBC, ASCE, AISC, ACI, etc.).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects independently.
- Self-motivated, results-oriented, and a team player with high ethical standards.
- Ability to travel globally (up to 15%, typically less than a week, with occasional trips up to 2 weeks).
- Ability to work at heights (up to 200 ft) on OSHA-compliant access systems.
- US citizenship or permanent resident status (visa sponsorship not available).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced proficiency with FEMAP, Ansys, SolidWorks 3D Simulation, and AutoCAD.
- Experience with civil/structural design of marine terminal structures and foundations.
- Understanding of mechanical equipment interface with structural design.
- Experience with container handling, bulk material handling equipment, and terminal civil design.
- Mobile, Alabama residency (a plus).
- Ability to travel globally more than 15% with trips up to 2 weeks.
