Director of Warehouse Operations

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM


Overview:

Our client, a start-up furniture distribution center specializing in servicing "big box" retailers, is seeking an experienced Director of Warehouse Operations to lead their 330,000 sq. ft. facility and team of 30 employees. The ideal candidate will have proven start-up experience in distribution and warehouse operations, a strong inventory background, and the ability to establish and streamline processes. This role requires both strategic leadership and hands-on involvement in day-to-day operations.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Planning & Execution: Develop and implement warehouse operations strategies to optimize space utilization, shipping and receiving processes, and overall operational efficiency.
  • Start-Up Leadership: Oversee the setup and organization of the warehouse, including creating workflows, layouts, and processes from the ground up.
  • Inventory Management: Design and implement an efficient inventory management system, ensuring accurate tracking, storage, and movement of products.
  • ERP Systems: Utilize and maintain ERP software to streamline warehouse operations and inventory tracking.
  • Operational Oversight: Lead and manage all aspects of warehouse operations, including shipping, receiving, and inventory control.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to enhance cost-effectiveness, productivity, and safety within the facility.
  • Leadership & Accountability: Hire, train, and manage staff, setting clear performance expectations and holding employees accountable for meeting goals.
  • Problem Solving: Act as a proactive problem solver, addressing operational challenges with effective, innovative solutions.
  • Hands-On Support: Be actively involved in daily operations to ensure smooth execution and resolve issues promptly.


Requirements:

  • 5 - 10 years experience in distribution and warehouse operations.
  • Proven start-up experience in distribution centers or warehouse operations.
  • Strong background in inventory management, including implementing systems and processes.
  • Expertise in ERP software and other inventory management tools.
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to translate vision into actionable plans.
  • Hands-on, solutions-oriented leader who takes initiative and drives results.
  • Exceptional organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Reliable, dependable, and proactive with a strong work ethic.
  • Experience holding employees accountable and fostering a culture of performance and accountability.
