Job Title: Project Controls Specialist

Location: North York, ON – Hybrid

Contract Duration: 1 Year (Option to Extend for up to 2 Additional Years in 1-Year Increments)

Working Hours: 35 Hours/Week

Potential Start Date: Jan 2025 (Negotiable)


Role Overview:

As a Project Controls Specialist , you will report to the Manager of Project Controls and play a vital role in managing and analyzing project costs. Your responsibilities will include establishing cost baselines, monitoring expenses, assessing change impacts, and providing accurate forecasting and reporting. Collaborating with project teams, you will ensure adherence to cost controls processes and maintain financial integrity for assigned projects and portfolios.


Key Responsibilities:

Cost Baseline Development:

  • Review project cost estimates, scope, and supporting documents.
  • Assign project cost codes and map Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and Cost Breakdown Structure (CBS).
  • Create and maintain integrated WBS and CBS frameworks for diverse reporting needs.

Cost Management:

  • Oversee project commitments and ensure accurate cost allocation.
  • Monitor incurred costs, calculate Estimate at Completion (EAC) and Forecast at Completion (FAC), and perform variance analyses.
  • Review project changes, assess cost/schedule impacts, and update forecasts accordingly.

Reporting & Analytics:

  • Prepare project cost variance reports with detailed narratives.
  • Provide insights into cost trends and forecasts, ensuring alignment with benchmarks and performance indicators such as CPI and Earned Value (EV).
  • Support the preparation of annual and long-term capital budgets.

Collaboration & Oversight:

  • Partner with schedulers to integrate cost and schedule data.
  • Ensure accurate forecasting by validating data provided by project teams.
  • Contribute to the development of standardized project management systems.

Compliance & Inclusion:

Qualifications & Experience:

Education:

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in a related field (e.g., Engineering, Engineering Technology) OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in project cost management, forecasting, and change control.
  • Strong analytical and organizational abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Expertise in relevant software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, Primavera P6, Cost Management Applications).

Experience:

  • Proven experience in project controls, from initiation to closure, ideally in an engineering/construction environment.
  • Familiarity with PMO processes and full project lifecycle phases.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical and non-technical project documentation.

Additional Requirements:

  • Strong knowledge of project controls principles, estimating, and change management practices.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines effectively.
