Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Fire Protection Engineer to join our dynamic team in Vancouver. This role involves overseeing the design, implementation, and quality assurance of fire protection systems. The successful candidate will ensure that all fire protection work meets design specifications, codes, and safety standards while collaborating with internal and external project teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, review, and oversee fire protection systems, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards.
- Prepare detailed fire protection drawings, specifications, and hydraulic calculations for various systems, including sprinklers, standpipes, and specialty systems.
- Coordinate with architects, interior designers, and other engineering disciplines to ensure seamless project execution.
- Conduct quality reviews of fire protection deliverables at different stages of development.
- Assist in developing fire protection concepts and construction budgets.
- Provide technical support during the construction phase, including reviewing change notices and site activities.
- Attend site meetings and collaborate with project managers, clients, and contractors to resolve technical issues.
- Ensure all fire protection tasks are completed accurately and efficiently within the assigned budget.
- When required, act as contract administrator for designated projects, ensuring timely completion of all contract administration activities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in British Columbia.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in fire protection engineering for residential, commercial, or institutional buildings.
- Strong knowledge of building codes and standards, and fire protection systems.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and leadership qualities.
- Ability to work both independently and within a multidisciplinary team.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Skills
- LEED certification or experience with sustainable design projects is an asset.
- Membership in the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (BC Chapter) is advantageous.
